INT. SITTING ROOM - 23:30 (Yesterday)
Having examined some buds of a cut stem, PETER chats with his WIFE.
PETER: I can see some have become loosened.
WIFE: Yes, I've sprayed them with water regularly.
PETER: I see.
WIFE: Perhaps, they might bloom tomorrow.
PETER: You think so?
WIFE: Yes.
PETER: We thought about seeing cherry blossoms in Okinawa in Jan-Feb. But we've never made it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Travelling away from home around Chinese New Year isn't a priority.
Act 2
INT. SITTING ROOM - 12:30
Having read answer requests, Peter types on screen.
PETER (V.O.): Quorans are curious and ask me all sorts of questions.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While I can respond many off the cuff, there're others that I haven't thought about.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To learn in the process, I research, analyse and reply with simple answers with featured photos.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I firmly believe a photo is worth a thousand words.
Appearing with a vase, Peter's wife checks the cut stem and looks pleased.
PETER: Blooming?
FLASHBACK
INT. DONKI - 18:00 (30 Jan 2022)
Shopping, Peter and his wife see cut cherry stems on display.
PETER: The first time I see them for sale. We should buy some.
They make their choice.
PETER(Cont'd): Many years ago, I bought some cherry seeds from Japan and planted them in the garden of my NT home.
Recalling.
PETER (Cont'd): But cherry seeds didn't germinate.
Holding two cut cherry stems, Peter looks joyful.
PETER (V.O.): Since the early 1990s, I've been chasing cherry blossoms in Japan.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My annual visits then became more than one visit per year.
SEQUENCE OF PETER'S EXPERIENCE IN SEEING CHERRY BLOSSOMS
A. TAIWAN. March 2016. Inside the cabin of an Alishan steam locomotive, Peter has a glimpse of cherry blossoms.
B. HONG KONG, March 2016. Cheung Chau, Peter sees a few small cherry trees blossoming in the Kwan Kung Pavilion.
C. MAINLAND. April 2016. Tsingtao, Peter enjoys cherry blossoms in the city and in parks.
D. JAPAN. May 2016. Sapporo, Peter and his wife are watching cherry blossoms near a hotel.
END SEQUENCE
PETER (Cont'd): But I've never got cherry stems like this.
Pausing.
PETER (Cont'd): Even if the cherry buds won't bloom. I'm content with just buying cherry stems in Hong Kong.
WIFE: Oh, you just buy the thing, not blossoming moments?
PETER: I've never seen cherry blossoms in Feb.
Peter looks at the buds again.
PETER: They look tight and may remain stubborn.
Act 3
INT. SITTING ROOM - 21:30
Peter is trying to find an angle to capture cherry blossoms.
PETER (V.O.): They begin to bloom in the afternoon.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Hours ago, we went back to Donki to see if we could buy more. But all were sold out.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is the first time we see cherry blossoms in Feb at home.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Today is the 3rd day of the Year of the Tiger - a memorable day!
