FADE IN
Act 1
EXT. PROMENADE, CENTRAL - 10:15
Appearing, PETER looks around.
PETER (V.O.): I read that there's a "One Citybus" exhibition here starting from today...
Peter then sees some double-decker buses parked inside a compound.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Are they the retro buses and retired buses that define the history of bus franchising on the Hong Kong Island?
Walking closer to the Central Harbourfront Event space, Peter sees a closed entrance.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The exhibition hasn't open yet. I'm too early.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yes, I can't wait to come.
From the outside, Peter stares at the buses parked in a distance.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But they aren't the ones I had in mind.
Act 2
FLASHBACK
EXT. HONG KONG ISLAND - NIGHT (1958)
A single-decker China Motor Bus with five-six two-seater seats. Peter (4) and his DAD (25) take one.
PETER (V.O.): Unlike the wooden seats at home, this cushioned seat is so comfortable.
Then, the bus CONDUCTOR comes to talk to Peter's Dad.
CONDUCTOR: If your kid takes a seat, you've to pay for his fare.
Peter's Dad grabs Peter to sit on his lap.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's OK, I'm attached to my Dad.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's the old bus I yearn to see. I want to relive my bus memories.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My family moved to the New Territories in 1960. I didn't take buses on the Hong Kong island until 1964.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): An auntie living in Western District was so kind that she wanted me to stay with her family during the Chinese New Year.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Her idea was to let the village boy see the lights and get red packets.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When we took a bus, I'd stand in the front, watching the driver driving.
MONTAGE OF PETER'S BUS MEMORIES.
A Queen's Road East. Peter stares at the driver steering the wheel, stepping on the accelerator or the brake.
B. Queen's Road Central. When the driver switches a button, Peter sees an indicator light coming out from the side flashing.
C. Queen's Road West. Peter stares at the driver stepping on the clutch pedal, shifting gears and keeping an eye of the road traffic.
END MONTAGE
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I was mesmerized by the bus driver's actions. I also believed I knew how to drive.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I was so confident that I told my grandma about that.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I wanted to prove that, I thought hard how could I take the driver's seat...
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I didn't steal a bus, but I dreamt a lot about driving a bus.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In the late 1960s, my family and I took buses with longer length to the Chai Wan cemetery to pay tribute to my Dad's father-in-law.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I wouldn't miss the opportunity as we would have fried noodles afterwards.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, I'm glad that my elder son always joins me to pay tribute to my late Dad.
Act 3
EXT. PROMENADE, CENTRAL - CONTINUOUS
PETER (V.O.): In the 1960s, my dream was to become a bus driver. I missed that, as I reckoned I could drive my own cars.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Still, I love those who would take the bus with me.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Life is like a bus ride. There're stops along the route and one has to choose where to get off. I'll pick the one I feel proud.
Tapping an AI Drawing App on his smartphone, Peter does his input and it generates a drawing within 12 seconds.
