Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - 09:45
PETER finishes his morning exercises.
PETER (V.O.): Today is Chinese New Year's Eve. It's Saturday, my wife doesn't have to go to work.
We hear some sounds coming from the Kitchen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She must be frying Chinese carrot cakes for our younger daughter who has to go to work soon.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Tonight, my family will have dinner with other nuclear members in Hung Shui Kiu.
Peter grabs his smart phone to check messages.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, a colleague has already sent New Year's Eve greetings to a chat group.
Copying a link from his YouTube channel, Peter pastes it to his message to the chat group.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The virtue of my song "New Year's Coming" will be gone by midnight today.
Act 2
INT. DINING ROOM - LATER
Peter is having Chinese carrot cakes as his WIFE looks on.
PETER: Is it the one made by our elder son's mother-in-law-to-be?
WIFE: No, we'll have that on New Year's day tomorrow.
Peter looks puzzled.
WIFE (Cont'd): This is the same one that we brought to Seoul for our elder daughter and her boyfriend's family.
PETER: It's delicious!
WIFE: I think so too.
Peter's wife then shows him some phone images on food.
WIFE: Apart from the Korean breakfast, they're having Chinese carrot cakes this morning too.
Peter nods.
WIFE (Cont'd): Our daughter said that her boyfriend and family had never had Chinese carrot cakes before and found the taste wonderful.
PETER (V.O.): My wife's kind thoughts add the flavour.
WIFE (Cont'd): I'll try to buy some more Chinese carrot cakes today.
Nodding, Peter captures a photo of the remaining bite-sized Chinese carrot cake.
INT. STUDY - 14:00
Phone rings. Peter gets the call.
WIFE (From phone): Can you and the maid come downstairs in 10 minutes to help me bring the stuff home?
PETER (V.O.): She must have bought a lot.
EXT. ESTATE ROAD - LATER
Peter sees his wife's car arriving. As car door opens, Peter is surprised to sees a Cuckoo rice cooker.
PETER: You bought one in Seoul a week ago...
MONTAGE OF A BUYING EXPERIENCE IN SEOUL
A. Hyundai department store. Peter, his wife, their DAUGHTER and her BOYFRIEND are at the Cuckoo rice cooker section.
B. In front of the Cuckoo rice cookers on display, Peter's wife speaks in Cantonese to daughter who then speaks in Japanese to her boyfriend.
C. Then, her boyfriend speaks in Korean to a SALESMAN who explains to him in length.
D. After hearing more conversations in Cantonese-Japanese-Korean and vice versa, we see Peter's wife taking out a credit to pay.
END MONTAGE
WIFE: That's the top model of the series. It isn't available for sale in Hong Kong. I'll use it on the 3rd day of the Chinese New Year.
Peter's wife points at her new purchase.
WIFE (Cont'd): The maid can use the standard one on other days.
PETER (V.O.): My wife enjoys having cooking stuff. I enjoy cooking up creative stuff.
.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While our apartments are getting smaller and smaller, we're all in this together!
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Is this success?
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 17:30
Listening to soft rock music, Peter works on a laptop.
PETER (V.O.): Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working/living together is success.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): I'm fortunate to have lived the Year 68 times and have eaten Chinese carrot cakes many thousands of times.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My only wish for the New Year is that all continue to shine like the Sun, the Moon and the Stars!
DAYDREAMING SEQUENCE
A. A restaurant in Hung Shui Kiu. Tonight. Peter's big FAMILY is having a joyful Chinese New Year's Eve meal together.
