FADE IN
Act 1
INT. STUDY - 10:00
Listening to music, PETER is typing on his smart phone.
PETER (V.O.): Yesterday night, I thought of responding to this email, requesting just a Yes/No answer.
Typing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): On second thoughts, I left it until this morning so that I'd have more time to examine the matter.
Inserting a link.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I need to alert others with evidence that this isn't a straight forward matter.
Editing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I hate crisis management and want to pre-empt it.
Peter sends this response.
Act 2
EXT. TUEN MUN HIGHWAY - 12:30
Sunny. Peter is driving a silver coupe.
PETER (V.O.): I've been busy with my voluntary work. I haven't returned to my NT home for a fortnight.
Peter sees the "Gold Coast" exit sign.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Why don't I go swimming in the sea? It shouldn't be very cold.
Peter takes the exit.
EXT. GOLD COAST BEACH - LATER
Few BEACHGOERS. A WOMAN is sunbathing. Two KIDs and their MOM are buiding castles in the sand.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me be the only swimmer.
Peter enters the water.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's cold. But I've swum in colder water before.
Peter begins to swim.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, it's so refreshing!
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For the past fortnight, I swam in heated swimming pools whenever I could.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I swam indoor last night. I didn't plan to swim in the sea hours later.
Swimming.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For fear of hypothermia, I'd only stay in the cold water for a short while.
Swimming.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The water is clear, and I'm the only one swimming in the big beach!
INT. LAKESIDE RESTAURANT - 15:00
Peter is having a tea set in a quiet corner.
PETER (V.O.): I didn't go to the one that I used to go, as it's crowded.
Eating and drinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Although Hong Kong is mask-free now, Covid is still in the air.
EXT/INT. PETER'S NT HOME - LATER
Driveway. Peter can't start his red coupe.
PETER (V.O.): Fair enough. It has been idling here for over a fortnight.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've brought with me a jump-starter.
Sitting room, G/F. Peter opens a large garbage bag.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've been decluttering since 2014...
We see messy rooms and corridors on the 1/F and 2/F as well.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Decluttering is harder now as the remaining stuff are like my love.
Later, we see Peter dumping a largely empty garbage bag.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 22:00
Listening to oldies, Peter types on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): A small choice I made to swim in the sea today made my day.
Selecting a beach image from his Photos App, Peter inserts it to a draft on screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Life is a matter of choices. And every choice I make makes me. I'm a nostalgic person.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The quality of my life depends on the quality of my thoughts and feelings.
From the radio, we're listening to Jo Stafford's 1950 song: No Other Love.
