Sitting by the bedside, PETER looks distant yet contemplative. He watches a video clip of the Marmalade performing " Reflections of My Life".
PETER (V.O.): Oh, my favorite song in the late 1960s.
FLASHBACK
INT. STUDIO, YUEN LONG - NIGHT (Dec 1970)
Primitive. Peter (16) and his BANDMATES are playing guitars and drums. We hear the guitar chords of G I Bm I Em I G7 I C/CEm I Am I D I D...
PETER (Singing): The changing of sunlight to moonlight - reflections of my life, oh how they fill my eyes.
The studio is alive with energy and youthful ambition.
PETER (Singing): The greetings of people in trouble - reflections of my life, oh how they fill my mind.
Strumming chords.
PETER (V.O.): My dream is to rock the world as a star.
Act 2
INT. SHUNG TAK COLLEGE - DAY (Jan 1970)
Classroom. Peter gets his report from Mr FUNG.
PETER (V.O.): My time was consumed by playing in the band, leaving little room for exam study.
Peter examines his report, marked in a cascade of failing red ink, and a grade: D+.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Given my poor performance, I found the plus sign insulting.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The public exams will begin in May. I greatly regret prioritising playing the guitar over my study time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I need to focus on my studies, starting from now!
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I passed the public exams in 1971; allowing me to enrol as a matriculation student in Heung Yee Kuk Secondary School.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I passed the HKU matriculation exams in 1973 but wasn't admitted to HKU.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've to work full-time to support myself.
FLASHBACK
EXT. YUEN LONG STADIUM - DAY (Spring, 1974)
Pak Kau College Sports day. Watching the events as teachers, Peter (19) chats with SHARON (18).
PETER: As a self-study student, I'll re-sit the HKU matriculation exams this year -my last opportunity.
SHARON: I'll resit the CUHK's matriculation exams this year...It's likely that I may fail again.
INT. COFFEE SHOP, KAM TIN - DAY (Summer, 1974)
Facing each other, Peter and Sharon are enjoying fresh milk.
PETER: I've already tendered my resignation - not just to prepare for the HKU matriculation exams as I'll have to report duty as a civil servant in late May.
Love is evident in their eyes.
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I became a Housing Assistant and my dream to read English Literature in HKU was again unsuccessful.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): On the other hand, Sharon was admitted to read Music in CUHK.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Despite the challenges we faced, Sharon and I happily married in 1979 with no banquet.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We lived in my parents' home, where our love for each other continued to grow deeply.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We bought our first home in NT in 1983, our second home on Hong Kong island in 1985 and our third home in Kowloon in 1991.
We hear from the video clip: All my sorrows, sad tomorrows, take me back to my own home.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Just when everything appeared perfect, Sharon was diagnosed with stomach cancer and tragically passed away in the summer of 1992.
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 21:45
Peter inserts an AI drawing titled: "Faded Dreams, Lasting Love..." to a draft on his laptop.
PETER (V.O): In the echoes of my faded dreams, love remains the melody that never fades.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Dreams may wither like Autumn leaves, but true love blooms eternally in the heart.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Faded Dreams remind me of what could have been, but lasting love teaches me what truly matters.
