Fingering Harmony

  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. STUDIO - 16:00

  4. We see PETER's fingers hitting the keyboard of a Clavinova.

  5. PETER (V.O.): I hit the right notes.

  6. We hear Peter practising from keys C upwards to B.

  7. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'm developing muscle memory.

  8. Repeating. We hear Peter's scale shifting is quite smooth between the keys of C and Db, D and Eb, and E and F.

  9. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The non-traditional fingerings of Gb, Ab, Bb and B are really non-traditional.

  10. Repeating tirelessly.

  11. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Only the right practice can make my practice better.

  12. Repeating happily.

  13. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I can feel the difference in my playing.

  14. Act 2

  15. FLASHBACK

  16. INT. STUDIO - 14:00 (Yesterday)

  17. Lying on a sofa, PETER is having screen time.

  18. PETER (V.O.): I want to improvise jazz piano but I don't know what to practise.

  19. On screen we see: 3 Jazz exercises to practise every day.

  20. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Sounds good to me.

  21. Tapping the "Play" button, Peter sees:...Diatoinc Scales...

  22. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): What are they?

  23. We see and hear the instructor playing beautiful jazz music on screen.

  24. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Wow, he's brilliant!

  25. We hear the instructor explaining:...these tunes are based on the Diatonic Scales...

  26. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): At the beginner level, I want to learn how to use the major scales in jazz.

  27. We hear the instructor remarking:...not just to practise the major scales in the 12 different keys...

  28. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I need to practise scale shifting ie transition from one scale to another smoothly, as that's the hallmark of jazz playing.

  29. Watching.

  30. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Oh, he's teaching fingering position as well...

  31. Watching.

  32. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I know the standard fingering...Oh, he's showing how to do the non-traditional fingering.

  33. Watching.

  34. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Learning the non-traditional ones, I can improvise...

  35. Pausing.

  36. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): That's what I want to learn.

  37. Watching the fingering positions on screen.

  38. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): That's how it's done. Not easy though.

  39. Watching.

  40. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): For jazz playing, I've to swing the notes too.

  41. Peter goes to his Clavinova.

  42. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Knowledge is of no value unless I put it into practice.

  43. Placing his mobile on the stand, Peter rewatches the video clip and positions his hands on the keyboard.

  44. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The more I learn about the piano, the more I want to play.

  45. Slowly, Peter plays the Diatonic Scale in the key of C in the standard way and then shifts it into key of Db.

  46. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Wow, the non-traditional fingering are challenging.

  47. Peter pauses the video clip and changes the "Playback Speed" to "0.5x".

  48. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I can't follow the instructor's speed.

  49. Having played the scale in the key of D, Peter shifts it into the key of Eb.

  50. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Oh, when will I finish learning the fingering of Diatonic Scales?

  51. END FLASHBACK

  52. Act 3

  53. INT. STUDIO - 22:00

  54. Working on a laptop, Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Fingering Harmony..." into a draft.

  55. PETER (V.O): Working on fingering positioning, I'd be patient, giving attention to details, and practising consistently.

  56. Pausing.

  57. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'm confident that I'll develop the skills with control, musicality and expressiveness.

  58. Pausing.

  59. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It's better to learn late than never. With the newfound knowledge, my pursuit on music improvision on piano is unstoppable.
