Friday Surprises

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. BEDROOM - 08:45


  4. Sunlight filters through curtains. PETER picks up a bag.


  5. PETER (V.O.): Today is Friday. I'll go swimming in baywaters as usual.


  6. Pausing.


  7. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): But I might take some files home. The less I pack, the better.


  8. Peter puts a pair of goggles, a bottle of sunscreen and a towel into a bag.


  9. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'll get a bottle of water and a banana from the kitchen.


  10. Pausing.


  11. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Oh yes, I mustn't forget to wear a hat.


  12. Act 2


  13. EXT. STANLEY MARKET - 11:00


  14. Strolling through the market, Peter stops at a clothing store.


  15. PETER (V.O.): To ensure I won't miss the swimming opportunity, I've worn my swimming brief beforehand.


  16. Pausing.


  17. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I usually have a spare brief or swimming brief in my bag. But today, I reckon I haven't got any.


  18. While checking a branded swimming brief, the SHOPKEEPER greets Peter.


  19. SHOPKEEPER: For those items, I offer you 20% discount.


  20. Peter smiles and nods.


  21. PETER (V.O.): Although I don't need to buy a swimming brief, I'm happy with the unexpected offer.

  22. Picking one, Peter makes the purchase. The shopkeeper is happy.


  23. SHOPKEEPER: Few customers would buy swimming stuff in fall.


  24. PETER (V.O.): I want to help boost Hong Kong's economy. I might well be your first customer today.


  25. EXT. ST STEPHEN'S BEACH - 11:15


  26. Picturesque. Walking past the barbecue section, Peter sees STUDENTS chatting, enjoying the meat at the same time.


  27. PETER (V.O.): I've got my healthy banana.


  28. At the beach, Peter sees OTHERS playing volley ball or having group discussions.


  29. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I envy the energy of their youthful spirit.


  30. Soon, we see Peter swimming to the floating platform of the swimming area.


  31. INT. TIM HO WAN RESTAURANT - 13:15


  32. Crowded outside. Peter and his WIFE stand waiting with a chit#A118. We hear: Chit#A102...A102...

  33. PETER: We haven't come here for about a fortnight...Should we go elsewhere?


  34. WIFE: Since we're here, let's wait.


  35. Finally seated, they make their orders without delay. We hear CUSTOMERS conversing in Japanese and English nearby.


  36. PETER: We've good international company this Friday.


  37. As dim sums are being put on their table and on other tables nearby, Peter and his wife make comparisons.


  38. PETER & WIFE: Wow, they've ordered much more than us!


  39. EXT. ESTATE ROADS - 17:45


  40. Inside a Eunos 30X, Peter is coaching his younger DAUGHTER to adjust the driver seat and the mirrors.

  41. PETER: This is the first time you drive with your brand new driving licence.


  42. Peter passes the car key to his daughter.


  43. PETER (Cont'd): After driving this coupe, you'll drive the Toyota Previa and then the Mercedes E class.


  44. His daughter starts the engine.


  45. PETER (Cont'd): I want you to feel how they're the same yet different.


  46. After two hours, they walk towards a block.


  47. PETER (V.O.): My daughter didn't expect to drive three cars consecutively this Friday evening.


  48. INT. STUDY - 20:30


  49. Smartphone in hand, Peter checks an email and then Yahoo!Finance.


  50. PETER (Cont'd): My stock order at that price has been filled? And I could have paid even less for the lot?


  51. Act 3


  52. INT. BEDROOM - 23:30


  53. Peter works before his laptop.


  54. PETER (V.O.): I see beauty in embracing unexpected opportunities, whether it's getting a discount or encountering people of different cultures.


  55. In the background, we hear the song "Fly Me to the Moon".


  56. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I didn't take any file home. I cherish family time, whether it's coaching my daughter driving or anticipating a relaxing weekend.


  57. Peter stares at an AI drawing.


  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's called "Friday Surprises" - the repeating of "F" sound in "Friday" and "Surprise" should create a pleasing and memorable rhythm.
