From a Walled City to KFC

  3. INT. LIVING ROOM - 10:00


  4. PETER, his WIFE and their elder DAUGHTER are prepared to go out.


  5. PETER (V.O): Our elder daughter will return to Seoul tomorrow.


  6. Pausing.


  7. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): We're going to watch a morning movie show about the Kowloon Walled City in a nearby cinema.


  8. Pausing.


  9. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): We've a feeling for the history of Hong Kong.


  10. Peter's wife checks the tickets.


  11. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Morning shows are cheap for the elderly. And my wife doesn't mind she's now eligible.


  12. Pausing.


  13. PETER: Let's go! We shouldn't miss the movie's opening scene.


  14. Act 2


  15. EXT. STREET - 10:15


  16. Peter sees their elder daughter parting them.


  17. PETER (to wife): Where's she going?


  18. WIFE: She's goes to a KFC branch to buy takeaway breakfast.


  19. PETER: But she might miss the movie's opening scene...


  20. PETER (V.O.): The opening scene is significant as it sets the movie's overall tone, mood and atmosphere.


  21. Pausing.


  22. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): It also introduces the main characters and provides the contextual information, allowing the audience to connect with them.

  24. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Apart from capturing the audience's attention and interest, it can foreshadow later developments in the story.

  26. Dimly lit. Previews and trailers are being shown as Peter and his wife appear.


  27. PETER (V.O): We usually go to the toilet first, but for this movie, we don't want to miss anything.


  28. As his wife takes an aisle seat, Peter sits on her left.


  29. PETER (to wife): And our elder daughter will sit on my left.


  30. WIFE: Yes.


  31. PETER (V.O): I love sitting between my loved ones.


  32. Later, their elder daughter arrives with her takeaway breakfast.


  33. PETER & WIFE: Very good! The main show hasn't begun yet.


  34. Soon, we begin to see vicious gang fights scenes on screen.


  35. PETER (V.O): I hope to see cinematic representations of the community living and working there.


  36. More action scenes within the Walled City on screen.


  37. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I find power, greed and revenge repulsive.


  38. More violence on screen.


  39. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): This isn't what I was expecting.


  40. Peter sees an elderly man leaving.


  41. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I can understand that. But we'll have lunch together after the show.


  42. When end credits appear on screen, Peter looks relieved.


  43. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Good. I know what commercial means.


  44. Exiting, the party checks the movie details shown on an electronic board.


  45. PETER: The movie title is "Twilight of the Warriors..."


  46. Pausing.


  47. PETER (V.O): I came to an action movie, hoping for a documentary...


  48. WIFE: Where shall we go for lunch?


  49. DAUGHTER: KFC!


  50. PETER (V.O): Its secret recipe never disappoints.


  51. Act 3


  52. INT. LIVING ROOM - 22:30


  53. Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "From a Walled City to KFC" to a draft.


  54. PETER (V.O): The historical Walled City and the modern KFC are disparate environments.


  55. Thinking.


  56. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Watching a movie and having fast food together cement our intergenerational connections. There's mutual understanding and respect within my family.


  57. Reflecting.


  58. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): When faced with unexpected or disappointing experiences in life, I should strive to maintain flexibility and a positive outlook.
