Act 1
PETER is reading something on his mobile screen.
PETER (V.O): How did this project go so wrong?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The personnel aim high...That's not bad.
Reviewing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): But they may not have the capacity to deliver the value propositions.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And they've belittled the external support needed.
Reviewing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): No proper due diligence has been done.
Act 2
INT. LIVING ROOM - 14:00
Peter notices that his WIFE is busy listening to voice messages and checking calendar dates.
PETER: Haven't we sorted out the future-proofing date for our elder daughter to get married?
WIFE: As her future mother-in-law was born in that month, she should select a date in other months to have a future-proofing marriage.
PETER: Okay, compliance and relationship... but why are you referring to the Japanese calendar as well?
WIFE: I comply with our elder daughter's instruction.
PETER: She had a spell in Japan. She speaks Japanese. She isn't Japanese.
WIFE: Some good dates for Chinese aren't good for Japanese.
PETER: The wish of her future mother-in-law takes precedent. That's simple.
WIFE: But, I don't want our elder daughter to get married in a certain month...
PETER: OMG...
PETER (V.O): So superstitious.
Later, we see Peter and his wife listening attentively to a voice message: The new date you suggested is too soon for us...
PETER: Let's go to our NT home to declutter together now.
Their younger DAUGHTER appears.
DAUGHTER: The property agent in Japan has just advised that since I'm a foreigner in Japan, I've to pay a little bit more rent...
PETER & WIFE: Just comply...there's no choice.
PETER (V.O.): To make her future-proved, we sent her to do tertiary education in UK, which should be easier than in Hong Kong.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): To future-proof herself in arts again, she is studying sculpting in Japan.
INT. PETER'S NT HOME - 18:00
Sitting on a sofa with Kaji, the family pet, Peter focuses on messages on his mobile screen.
PETER (V.O): I meant to declutter. But this unwarranted request is bothering me.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): To get things done, I practise compliance as it is structured and rule-based.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): But in complying, guidelines and lines of authority may not be clear.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Others think good relationship is more effective in problem-solving as it provides the foundation for flexibility and adaptability.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Strict compliance without considering the perspectives and needs of others hinder collaborative developments.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Furthermore, relationships can be long-lasting and can be beyond a particular project.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I've few good relationships. That explains why I'm not doing particularly well...
Pondering.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Should I reappraise how to future-proof myself?
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 23:30
Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Future-proofing" to a text.
PETER (V.O): "Future-proofing" refers to the process of planning something in a way that minimizes the risk of it becoming obsolete or irrelevant in the future.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): It involves taking proactive measures to ensure one's value propositions remains viable in the face of changing circumstances or evolving needs.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I stay curious and I practise lifelong learning. Being creative should be future-proofing to me.
