PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The property was registered in her sole name, although I covered all the mortgage installments.
Stuffing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I also want to renovate my NT home, but handing over a vacant space presents a significant problem.
Peter feels the heaviness of the bags.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, I'm moving more items into my NT home.
Act 2
EXT/INT. PETER' S NT HOME - 17:00
Roadside and front yard. Peter removes two bags from his red Nissan 200SX and walks past a beautiffully maintained front yard.
PETER (V.O.): My gardener is doing an excellent job.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He was previously an estate caretaker. When Sharon and I bought the house in 1983, he handed it over to us on behalf of the developer.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was first home, and we're incredibly happy.
Peter enters the cluttered sitting room.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Furnishing the 3-storey building costed us a fortune.
Peter ascends the staircase, lined with files on its side, to reach the master bedroom on the 1st F.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Later, we purchased our second home on Hong Kong island and our third in Kowloon.
Peter places the bags inside the master bedroom.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The bags hold the title deeds of all the properties.
Sighing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd):The fact that Sharon would pass away in August 1992 was completely unexpected.
Sighing.
PETER (V.O.): While I focused on developing IP policy and part-time law lecturing, she dedicated her time to preparing her children's choir for a performance in Canada.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She experienced some stomachaches and we thought they weren't unusual.
Peter decends to the sitting room and gazes at Sharon's framed photo on the shelf.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She remains forever young. I told her I'd place her ashes there.
Sitting on a sofa, Peter picks up phone charging cables to charge his mobile devices.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Not charging?
Peter kneels down to check the electric socket in the corner and discovers there's no electricity.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd):The house hasn't been renovated in 30 years.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When Sharon passed away, I left our homes and returned to live with our son at my parents' home in Tin Sum.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): There're typhoons, and I didn't realize I hadn't closed all the windows. As a result, I had to repair the damage done.
Peter inspects the fuse box area and discovers a short circuit.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): What could be the cause?
Peter flips a switch upward.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If the issue isn't resolved, it'll short circuit again.
Peter attempts to turn on the staicase light, but there's no response. He nods, having pinpointed the cause. He heads out to pull his Eunos 30X to the roadside.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me turn on the hazard lights. Where's the switch?
Peter can't locate it.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Am I losing my sharpness rapidly?
Peter then sees an empty switch slot.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, the mechanic neglected to reattach it after checking other dashboard lights during the last repair.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 21:30
Peter inserts an AI drawing titled: "Harzard Lights..." to a draft on his laptop.
PETER (V.O): Funny how I notice what's missing...long after it's gone.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Life's the real hazaard. The switch just lets me pretend I've got control.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I'm not yet ready for any emergencies.
