Hold On

  1. FADE IN.

  2. Act 1

  3. INT. STUDY - 10:00

  4. Having heard a Ding! sound from his smartphone, PETER is in thoughts.

  5. PETER (V.O.): That's the last lot I wanted to buy. Since Sept 15. 2021, I've been building my entrepreneurship fund by investing in Hong Kong stocks.

  6. Pausing.

  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Circumstances then were such that I reckoned the only reason to save money was to invest it, myself.

  8. Pausing.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In my 67 years of life, I've never invested in stocks via stock trading Apps.

  10. Pausing.

  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Time is ripe for me to venture into this; or I might regret I've never felt the pulse of a financial centre.

  12. Reflecting.

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Have I now got a good sense of my personal finance?

  14. Act 2

  15. FLASHBACK

  16. INT. ADMIRALTY CENTRE - 16:30 (Sept 15, 2021)

  17. Rushing towards the MTR entrance, Peter takes a call.

  18. PETER (to phone): My order has been fully executed? As I only applied for online stock trading today, my stock trading App will begin working from tomorrow?

  19. Peter looks pleased.

  20. END FLASHBACK

  21. INT. STUDY - CONTINUOUS

  22. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I thought I had bought small lot of stocks of Bank of China in Hong Kong. But what I actually bought were those of Bank of China in the Mainland.

  23. Pausing.

  24. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): From then on, I continued to buy stocks arbitrarily, from utility companies and insurance companies to those with code numbers 1-20 and those that sounded nice like to me like 1888.

  25. Pausing.

  26. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'd also buy shares of companies that have left good impressions on me as a customer, like luxury products or hospitality services.

  27. Pausing.

  28. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Initially, I tried the online stock trading Apps of four banks. After turning my idle money as buying power in three banks, I've been using one bank's App only.

  29. Pausing.

  30. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): And after three weeks' buying spree, I learned how to use Yahoo! Finance to check my investment returns and to research.

  31. INT. RESTAURANT - DAY (Oct 15, 2021)

  32. Having lunch with ACCOUNTANTS#1 and ACCOUNTANT#2, Peter shows them his investment portfolio with over 5% positive gains.

  33. ACOUNTANT#1: How long did it take for you to build this up?

  34. PETER: A month.

  35. ACCOUNTANT#2: Wow, we took several years to design something similar!

  36. Peter looks shocked.

  37. ACCOUNTANT#1: Bear in mind that your intended gain and unintended loss are proportional.

  38. Peter nods.

  39. RETURN TO PRESENT

  40. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I wanted more positive gains, I deployed the buy-and-hold strategy.

  41. Pausing.

  42. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For the past month or so, the Hong Kong stock market has been sliding and bottoming again. I've been busy to average down my investment costs and to buy the dips.

  43. Peter checks on phone screen the red numerals of his entrepreneurship fund.

  44. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While the daily price fluctuations can be scary, they're just water under the bridge.

  45. Pausing.

  46. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've no more idle cash to buy. Now is the stage for me for hold.

  47. Pausing.

  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I hope that I can really hold on to it.

  49. Act 3

  50. INT. STUDY - 23:00

  51. After taking a look of his entrepreneurship fund on screen, Peter is in thoughts.

  52. PETER (V.O.): I've learned how to deploy my idle money. They left my savings accounts and have gone into my securities' accounts.

  53. Pausing.

  54. fPETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My wealth managers should be shocked to find out that there's no point to persuade me to buy further new bank products.

  55. Pausing.

  56. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm experimenting if the buy-and-hold strategy would work. I haven't sold a single share of the stocks I bought yet.

  57. Pausing.

  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a shareholder of 67 companies, I've begun receiving dividends from some.

  59. Peter looks content.

  60. FADE OUT

  61. THE END
