Intelligence Unbound

  1. FADE IN

  2. Act 1

  3. EXT. OPEN SPACE - 10:45

  4. Sitting under a small tree, PETER is in thoughts.

  5. PETER (V.O.): Yesterday, someone reminded me that "No one is perfect".

  6. Checking WhatsApp messages with his mobile.

  7. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): In this imperfect world, I've long accepted that we all have flaws.

  8. Peter sees an electronic chit of McDonalds.

  9. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've never done an IQ test. I believe if I did one, my score should be below average.

  10. Thinking.

  11. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): When discussing intelligence, what common types are we talking about?

  12. Researching with mobile, Peter looks wide-eyed.

  13. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Wow, so many!

  14. Act 2

  15. EXT. OPEN SPACE - CONTINUOUS

  16. We follow Peter to read the following:

  17. 1 General Intelligence: It refers to overall cognitive abilities that are measured by IQ tests, encompassing the mental process of reasoning, problem-solving and comprehension.

  18. 2. Fluid Intelligence: It's the ability to think abstractly, reason and solve new problems independent of acquired knowledge, involving skills of pattern recognition, logical reasoning, and adaptability to new situations.

  19. 3. Crystallized Intelligence: It's about acquired knowledge, skills, and expertise that are accumulated throughout one's life, including verbal comprehension, vocabulary, and general knowledge.

  20. 4. Emotional Intelligence: It refers to the ability to recognize, understand and manage one's own emotions as well as to perceive and respond effectively to the emotions of others, applying skills of empathy, self-awareness and emotional regulation.

  21. 5. Social Intelligence: It's the ability to understand and navigate social situations effectively, involving skills of empathy, social awareness, communication and social perception.

  22. 6. Creative Intelligence: It's about the ability to generate new and valuable ideas, think outside the box, and find creative solutions to problems, involving skills of divergent thinking, originality, and connecting the disconnects.

  23. 7. Multiple Intelligence (MI): This theory suggests that intelligence isn't a single, unified entity but rather a collection of different types of intelligences that are: (1) linguistic, (2) logical-mathematical, (3) spatial, (4) musical, (5) bodily-kinesthetic (6) interpersonal, (7) intrapersonal, (8) naturalistic, and (9) existential ones.

  24. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know these types of intelligence aren't mutually exclusive but I'm particularly interested in MI.

  25. Peter focuses on "linguistic intelligence".

  26. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Well, I'm reasonably good in public speaking and storytelling. But I've been struggling to learn French, Japanese and Korean...

  27. Peter focuses on "logical-mathematical intelligence".

  28. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having studied logic, epistemology and leadership, I'm logical, analytical and can solve problems. But my mathematical calculations are poor.

  29. Peter focuses on "spatial intelligence".

  30. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm not good to perceive and manipulate visual-spatial information. I'm neither an architect nor designer, and my visual arts are AI-generated.

  31. Peter focuses on "musical intelligence".

  32. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've a keen sense of melody. I can create and perform my own music. But I can't appreciate classical ones. My rhythm and pitch aren't steady.

  33. Peter focuses on "bodily-kinesthetic intelligence".

  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've reasonable physical co-ordination and control. I cycle and swim well. I dance well too, but my wife disagrees.

  35. Peter focuses on "interpersonal intelligence".

  36. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've high intelligence to understand and interact with others effectively. I've done well in teaching, counseling, teamwork and leadership.

  37. Peter focuses on "intrapersonal intelligence".

  38. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I know my own thoughts, emotions and motivations. I set goals, managing and leading myself. I excel in self-reflection and self-expression.

  39. Peter focuses on "naturalistic intelligence".

  40. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'm sensitive to Nature. I appreciate the environment. I know I'm an instant of the life force and a transient particle of the Cosmos.

  41. Peter focuses on "existential intelligence".

  42. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I take questions of meaning and purpose seriously. I've been contemplating deeply philosophical issues of existence, life and death.

  43. Thinking.

  44. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Is there a hierarchical order among these intelligences?

  45. Thinking.

  46. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Is the highest form of intelligence to observe myself without judgment?

  47. Pondering.

  48. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Would AI with emotional intelligence substitute human intelligence?

  49. DAYDREAMING

  50. A. Future. Full AI has been developed. It takes off on its own. It re-designs itself at an ever-increasing rate.

  51. RETURN TO PRESENT

  52. Act 3

  53. INT. OPEN SPACE - LATER

  54. Carrying McDonalds' takeaways, Peter checks an AI drawing entitled "Intelligence Unbound" on his mobile.

  55. PETER (V.O): IQ tests may not fully capture the diversity of human capacity, as all have unique combinations of strengths and weaknesses across multiple intelligences.

  56. Thinking.

  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I publish my daily blog post, I like think that I'm uploading some expressions of my brain in a very primitive way.

  58. Pondering.

  59. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): When uploading minds becomes technically feasible, would it lead to "immortality"? Or, would the next phase of humans' evolution lead to perfect minds?

  60. FADE OUT
