While sharing breakfast with KAJI, the family pet, PETER is also enjoying cheery blossoms of cut stems in a vase.
PETER (V.O.): Those we bought a fortnight ago bloomed in white.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Those we got days ago began to bloom in pink.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): Despite the pandemic situations in Hong Kong, I appeared in court yesterday and I shall appear again within hours.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): New COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings will begin tomorrow.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Is this a season to be joyful?
Act 2
EXT. ROADS - 08:10
Sitting in a public light bus, Peter sees a memory clip on his smartphone screen.
PETER (V.O.): On Feb 9, 2019, I made a day trip from Sapporo to Asahikawa to see the snow festival there.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was so cold that my smartphones didn't quite work. A jolly adventure though.
Peter gets off near a court house.
INT. CHA CHAAN TENG - 13:15
Peter checks its trade name before entering.
PETER (V.O.): Yesterday, the lunch set here was delicious. Today's menu isn't appealing.
Having scanned a QR code and checked his temperature, Peter steps inside.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Many vacant tables.
PETER (to a STAFF): Do you do fried noodles not listed in the menu?
STAFF: Yes, you pay just a bit more.
PETER: Good. I'll have fried beef rice vermicelli with black beans and pepper.
STAFF: No problem.
PETER (V.O.): I had a hectic morning. Now's the time to reward myself.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I haven't had fried rice vermicelli for a long time.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I used to have it when I was working in the Castle Peak Hotel in the late 1960s.
As his ordered food is put on the table, Peter can't wait to sample it.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is what I want. Jolly good!
EXT. MTR CABIN - 17:15
Crowded. Peter looks aimless.
PETER (V.O.): I meant to go back to chambers to give red packets to the secretaries. But they might have left already.
Peter checks phone messages.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, my car repairer asks me if I'd collect my SMART car.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yesterday, I suggested more work items so the repairer can charge me more - my indirect red packet.
Having typed his reply, Peter realises the next station is Sham Shui Po.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, I boarded the wrong train. I'll just get off to buy smartphone charging cables from my favourite store.
EXT. AP LIU STREET - 17:45
As Peter pays the storekeeper, we hear: Thank you very much, with sincerity.
PETER (V.O.): Whenever I'm here, I feel like doing window shopping with my late Dad.
Act 3
SEQUENCE OF PETER'S OTHER JOLLY ACTIVITIES
A. Supermarket. 18:15. Peter buys several tins of abalone and pays with gift coupons.
B. Park - Streets. 18.30. Peter jogs past a park towards an industrial area.
C. Car-repairer. 18:30. Peter pays happily before driving off in his SMART car.
D. Study. 19:15. Listening to stereo music, Peter watches TV and types on his laptop.
RETURN TO PRESENT
INT. DINING ROOM - 20:30
While having dinner, Peter and his WIFE follow pandemic news.
PETER: We'd better fixed our booster shot.
PETER (Cont'd): Incidentally, today's stock market closed high. I've lost less.
WIFE: But I was so busy that I couldn't squeeze the time to sell high.
