FADE IN
Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - 06:30
PETER is tossing and turning in bed.
PETER (V.O.): I've been thinking about my anthem-like song in the MV format.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's my first song that I haven't put my name to it. The few recipients of it know that I'm the singer-songwriter.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I didn't promise to do it as I might not be able to come up with one. But I felt that stakeholders expected me to do so.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd):: Having done it with my heart, I shared it to assure stakeholders that there's already something to fall back on. It can be my intellectual gift to them.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I want all to enjoy the festive holidays.
Act 2
FLASHBACK
INT. SITTING ROOM - NIGHT (Dec 27, 2022)
Seeing his younger SON with his GIRLFRIEND, the latter presents Peter with a gift.
PETER (V.O.): Although it's the first time she's invited to come home for dinner, I don't expect to receive any gift.
Accepting it, Peter opens it and sees, among other things, a delicate guitar pick in black with a distinct guitar device on it.
GIRLFRIEND: It's your name and initials.
Peter examines the device.
PETER: Yes, I see "Peter" and "C" in the guitar-shaped body, "p" from the headstock to the neck, and "f" the same, highlighted in the nut.
PETER (V.O.): Where's "k"? I believe it's hiding along the nut.
Peter repositions the device to check the nut.
PETER (Cont'd): I can see the "k" along the nut.
GIRLFRIEND: It's barely visible though.
PETER: It's the thought that counts.
PETER (V.O.): "Peter kfC" are my identifiers; and guitar is me.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): In 1966, my secondary school required students to have a Christian name. I loved the pop duo "Peter & Gordon" and chose "Peter" as my name.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Studying Philosophy in the mid-1970s, I felt "Peter" wasn't me, I began signing as "k f Cheung".
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When e-communications became popular, I began initialing as "pkfC" - I still love its look and feel.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While friends call me "Peter", others keep addressing me as "Mr Cheung". I treat it as my nickname.
Staring at the device.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I love guitars because their design and feel, as well as their sounds, are different. But I'm still learning to play them well.
Peter hesitates to use the pick to play a red electric guitar.
PETER (Cont'd): Too precious for me to use it casually...
RETURN TO PRESENT
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I use different guitars to compose different songs. As I've only one 12-string guitar, I've used it more than once - the latest one being the anthem-like song.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Have guitars become extensions of Peter k f Cheung?
Pondering.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I haven't written a new good song for about three years, was my latest work an outburst of my creativity?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And that has become a new stressor of my sleep?
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 22:00
The stylized guitar pick by his side, Peter is working on a laptop.
PETER (V.O.): My son's girlfriend has put in a lot of creative or design thinking into it, making it meaningful and functional.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She said she didn't begin with any preconceived idea. The creative work was the result of careful observation and critical thinking.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I feel there's no greater joy in life than the joy of creating or designing something.
Peter stares at the guitar pick and then his MV on phone screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And gifts that come from the heart are the best gifts of all.
