Just Love

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. BEDROOM - 00:30


  4. In bed, PETER is in thoughts.


  5. FLASHBACK


  6. INT. CONSULTATION ROOM - 13:20 (YESTERDAY)


  7. Nana in a transparent box is on a table. An ASSISTANT is speaking to Peter in the presence of his WIFE and SON.


  8. ASSISTANT: Once the euthanasia process is initiated, it's irreversible.


  9. Nodding, Peter signs on a document on screen and the Assistant witnesses that.


  10. PETER: After the injection, can Nana be put back inside the box?

  11. WIFE: It's her home.


  12. The Assistant nods.


  13. END FLASHBACK


  14. Act 2


  15. DREAM SEQUENCE


  16. A. Somewhere in time. Peter sees a big red-eared slider turtle chasing a prey.


  17. B. The turtle doesn't look like Nana. Has it been transformed? Peter wonders.


  18. END DREAM SEQUENCE.


  19. INT. COUNCIL CHAMBERS, HKUST - 09:30


  20. Meeting begins. Peter stares at his phone screen.


  21. PETER (V.O.): Someone from the exotic hospital should have called me. Is Nana's heart still beating?


  22. Later. Peter sees a WhatsApp message from his wife: Nana has gone peacefully.


  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yesterday, when we returned from the exotic hospital, my wife was anxious to find the video clip depicting a dancing Nana in a shower.


  24. Recalling.


  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In the evening, we attended an important dinner function. It was joyful.


  26. Pausing.


  27. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Transacting the Council's business now counteracts my grief for Nana.


  28. INT. SITTING ROOM - 15:30


  29. Returning and seeing some sunshine on the floor, Peter puts Tai Kou in a porous tray to enjoy it.


  30. PETER (V.O.): Not capable of loving Nana strongly, Tai Kou doesn't suffer any deep sorrow.


  31. Recalling.


  32. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At the promenade yesterday morning, Nana attracted a big fly. I didn't like that.


  33. MONTAGE OF PETER'S COUNTERACTING ACTIVITIES


  34. A. Swimming pool. 16:45. Peter swims many laps without resting.


  35. B. Studio. 18:00. Peter plays the piano.


  36. C. Study. 19:00. Eating a chocolate bar, Peter watches TV.


  37. END MONTAGE


  38. INT. SITTING ROOM - 19:30


  39. Appearing and seeing his WIFE, Peter is surprised.


  40. PETER: You're home? So early?

  41. Peter's wife points to a white amphibian cage on the floor.


  42. WIFE: Our son and I have just bought it.


  43. PETER (V.O.): Good for Tai Kou.


  44. INT. DINING ROOM - 20:00


  45. Via his smart phone, Peter sends photos and video clips of Nana to the family chatgroup, as his wife passes him a small bowl of rice.


  46. PETER: You decide which ones to be used for Nana's funeral service.


  47. Phones in hands, Peter's wife and their son discuss and make the decision. Peter finishes his meal quickly.


  48. WIFE: Finished? One more bowl?


  49. PETER: No, you understand...


  50. Act 3


  51. INT. SITTING ROOM - 22:15


  52. Peter's wife is setting up the amphibian cage as Peter looks on.


  53. PETER (V.O.): We're capable of loving strongly and so we suffer great sorrow.


  54. INT. BEDROOM - 23:00


  55. Sitting in a corner, Peter is in thoughts.


  56. PETER (V.O.): Grief is just love. Love that we want to give but can't.


  57. Thinking.


  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Little by little, we may let go of our loss, but never of our love.


  59. Peter makes a heavy sigh.
