INT. BEDROOM - 00:30
In bed, PETER is in thoughts.
FLASHBACK
INT. CONSULTATION ROOM - 13:20 (YESTERDAY)
Nana in a transparent box is on a table. An ASSISTANT is speaking to Peter in the presence of his WIFE and SON.
ASSISTANT: Once the euthanasia process is initiated, it's irreversible.
Nodding, Peter signs on a document on screen and the Assistant witnesses that.
PETER: After the injection, can Nana be put back inside the box?
WIFE: It's her home.
The Assistant nods.
END FLASHBACK
Act 2
DREAM SEQUENCE
A. Somewhere in time. Peter sees a big red-eared slider turtle chasing a prey.
B. The turtle doesn't look like Nana. Has it been transformed? Peter wonders.
END DREAM SEQUENCE.
INT. COUNCIL CHAMBERS, HKUST - 09:30
Meeting begins. Peter stares at his phone screen.
PETER (V.O.): Someone from the exotic hospital should have called me. Is Nana's heart still beating?
Later. Peter sees a WhatsApp message from his wife: Nana has gone peacefully.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Yesterday, when we returned from the exotic hospital, my wife was anxious to find the video clip depicting a dancing Nana in a shower.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In the evening, we attended an important dinner function. It was joyful.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Transacting the Council's business now counteracts my grief for Nana.
INT. SITTING ROOM - 15:30
Returning and seeing some sunshine on the floor, Peter puts Tai Kou in a porous tray to enjoy it.
PETER (V.O.): Not capable of loving Nana strongly, Tai Kou doesn't suffer any deep sorrow.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At the promenade yesterday morning, Nana attracted a big fly. I didn't like that.
MONTAGE OF PETER'S COUNTERACTING ACTIVITIES
A. Swimming pool. 16:45. Peter swims many laps without resting.
B. Studio. 18:00. Peter plays the piano.
C. Study. 19:00. Eating a chocolate bar, Peter watches TV.
END MONTAGE
INT. SITTING ROOM - 19:30
Appearing and seeing his WIFE, Peter is surprised.
PETER: You're home? So early?
Peter's wife points to a white amphibian cage on the floor.
WIFE: Our son and I have just bought it.
PETER (V.O.): Good for Tai Kou.
INT. DINING ROOM - 20:00
Via his smart phone, Peter sends photos and video clips of Nana to the family chatgroup, as his wife passes him a small bowl of rice.
PETER: You decide which ones to be used for Nana's funeral service.
Phones in hands, Peter's wife and their son discuss and make the decision. Peter finishes his meal quickly.
WIFE: Finished? One more bowl?
PETER: No, you understand...
Act 3
INT. SITTING ROOM - 22:15
Peter's wife is setting up the amphibian cage as Peter looks on.
PETER (V.O.): We're capable of loving strongly and so we suffer great sorrow.
INT. BEDROOM - 23:00
Sitting in a corner, Peter is in thoughts.
PETER (V.O.): Grief is just love. Love that we want to give but can't.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Little by little, we may let go of our loss, but never of our love.
Peter makes a heavy sigh.
