Act 1
INT. LIVING ROOM - MORNING
An empty dog compound. In a massage chair, KAJI lies on the lap of the PACK LEADER.
KAJI (V.O): For weeks now, the Pack Leader has been spending the nights with me like this.
Kaji sees the MAID putting food on a table.
KAJI (V.O.) (CONT'D): Before I hurt my left leg, I'd run into the bedroom, jumping up onto the bed and urging Peter to wake up for breakfast.
Recalling.
KAJI (V.O.) (CONT'D): And if he didn't get my cues, I'd bark or whine. I'd even step on his chest.
Recalling.
KAJI (V.O.) (CONT'D): But now, I've learned to be patient. I believe Peter would appear soon.
Later, we see Peter passing bread slices to Kaji, some thick, some thin.
Act 2
INT. BEDROOM - AFTERNOON
Peter relaxes in bed as the Pack Leader appears with Kaji in her arms.
PACK LEADER: You've just swum in the sea. I'm going out to do a little shopping.
PETER: Okay, just put our darling in bed...
PACK LEADER: Would you be able to control her movements?
PETER: Don't worry. She'll be a good dog.
Putting Kaji next to Peter, the Pack Leader exits.
KAJI (V.O.): I haven't been in bed with Peter for weeks.
Recalling.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): I take it for granted to lick Peter's face whenever I feel like it.
With excitment in her eyes, Kaji begins to lick Peter's cheek.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): His cheek is soft and warm...I miss that...
More affectionate licking.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): ...but it's a bit salty.
PETER: Good dog...
Hearing some sounds from outside, Kaji's ears perk up with alertness.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): What's happening?
Kaji springs from the bed, her limbs moving with a suprising agility.
PETER: OMG!
INT. LIVING ROOM - EVENING
Wearing a cone around her neck, Kaji is alone. She stares at her toy box.
KAJI (V.O): For weeks, the Pack Leader and the Gang haven't played with me.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): Wearing this cone of shame, I'm unable to chew on my playthings.
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): But why can't I play?
Kaji looks down at her legs, noting the stark difference.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): Oh dear, my right leg has become thick and my left leg thin...
Lying quietly, Kaji's eyes reflect a mix of uncertainty and concern.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): For weeks, I can only use my right leg to hop...
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): Am I destined to limp forever?
Pausing.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): Might it be my new reality?
MONTAGE OF KAJI'S GOOD OLD DAYS
A. Home. Kaji plays with her toys energetically.
B. Park. Kaji runs freely, chasing other pets.
END MONTAGE
Act 3
INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
With a cone, Kaji waits at the main door.
KAJI (V.O): The Pack Leader and the Gang are the once-in-a-lifetime kind of humans.
As the door swings open, Kaji welcomes the Pack Leader and Peter home.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): Even when times are tough, I feel good that we're in it together.
The Pack Leader and Peter pet Kaji affectionately.
KAJI (V.O) (Cont'd): They really love me and would stick by me through thick and thin, no matter what.
