FADE IN
Act 1
INT. STUDIO - 10:00
PETER is watching an online piano tutorial on an iPad Mini.
PETER (V.O.): I'm keen to learn the fingering.
Pausing the video clip, Peter plays some notes, rather awkwardly.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Note by note, phrase by phrase. I know I can do it.
Peter rewinds the video clip, plays it and practises his fingering again.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm a visual learner. I've got the A section of the song!
Practising.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe I can play the AABA structure of "Misty" today.
Act 2
INT. DINING ROOM - 11:15
Peter puts McDonald breakfast sets on the table.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.): Before I went to get the takeaways, I had squeezed the time to practise the song's A section again.
As Peter's WIFE is unpacking the takeaways, Peter takes the piano seat.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): At home now, I'm the only one who plays the piano.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've the tremendous desire for whatever self-improvement.
Playing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My wife and our younger daughter haven't heard me playing any jazz ballad before.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): They may think that I can only play the same old songs.
Playing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Incidentally, they're my favourites. I've been wondering if I'd ever get tired of them.
Playing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My hand-eye coordination and my listening skills are improving.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I know many successful composers use the piano as the main instrument to create their works.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): As the notes are laid out in the consecutive order on the keyboard, it's probably the best instrument for songwriting.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Without a background in playing the piano, the songs I've composed are raw.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Having composed one piano piece, I find the piano having a wider range of notes for composing harmonies and accompaniments than the guitar.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): While I was in my teens, I didn't have access to the piano. And my $30 guitar couldn't work wonders.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): As for my children, I gave them equal opportunities to learn music and instruments. But only our younger son plays the piano very well.
INT. STUDIO - 18:30
We hear Peter playing the AABA structure of "Misty".
PETER (V.O.): The fingering isn't easy for me; but I've done it.
Tapping an app, Peter creates an AI drawing, depicting black-and-white keys in a colourful context.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): My interpretation is that black-and-white stuff can bring colour to life.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): With internet accessibility, content variety and online flexibility, there's no excuse not to learn something new each day.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Am I too old to learn playing the piano?
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): While "better late than never", the best is "don't be late".
Act 3
INT. STUDIO - 23:00
We hear Peter playing "Misty" on piano again.
PETER (V.O.): Apart from the performing skill, I've also learned how to compose a great melody and harmony.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Playing the piano, I feel it's soothing effect and get a sense of tranquility.
Peter stares at the black and white keys.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): They're keys to serenity.
