PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): She'll marry his Korean boyfriend soon. And my wife and I want to communicate with her new family members.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Today is June 27th. If it's our younger daughter on the line, I'll say Happy Birthday to her in person.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): She should be having a study visit in Sado Island near Niigata in Japan.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Earlier today, I've posted a link of my "Happy Birthday" song on her timeline.

FLASHBACK
INT. LECTURE ROOM, HKU (1977)
Among other HOUSING ASSISTANTS, Peter (23) follows a law lecture attentively.
LECTURER#1: Leases in New Kowloon and the New Territories (NT) were sold for the residue of a term of 99 years less three days from 1 July 1898.
PETER (V.O.): That will be 27 June 1997.
LECTURER (Cont'd). Having the reversionary interest, the Crown can resume ownership of the land.
PETER (V.O.): What's the point for the Crown to resume ownership just for three days if the head lease is not extended...
INT. GOVERNMENT OFFICES - DAY (1995)
The SECRETARY for Trade and Industry is seeing Peter (41).
PETER (V.O): She's very worried if the intellectual property bills that I'm answerable and responsible would become law before Hong Kong rejoins the motherland.

PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Since I joined the Intellectual Property Dept in late 1991, I've done a law on Layout-design (Topography) of Integrated Circuits in 1994.

PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And this year, I've done a stop-gap legislation so that Hong Kong can live up to the prevailing international minimum standards.

PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): But the bills on Copyright, Registered Designs and Patents are very substantive ones...

PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And to accomplish the mission, the Administration needs the support of the Legislature.
PETER: Secretary, I'll do what's required, as always.
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And on this very date in 1997, the Copyright Ord, the Registered Designs Ord and the Patents Ord all came into effect.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): There was no IP legal lacuna. I worked very hard and got the support of the Legislature.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And on this very date three years later, my wife gave birth of our younger daughter.

Peter and his wife are walking KAJI, the family pet.
PETER (V.O): Except for today, we've never come out around this time on a hot summer day.
EXT. WALKWAY TO HKUSPACE - 18: 45
Peter and his wife are rushing towards the campus.
PETER: We've skipped dinner, and still we're late...
WIFE: We've got so much to do today...
PETER (V.O.): True, we spend endless hours learning Korean.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And there's always room for improvement for anything.

INT. LIVING ROOM - 23:00
Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Law & Love ..." to a draft.
PETER (V.O): I've deep understanding of the legal landscape surrounding Hong Kong.

PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The date 27 June represents some important milestones in my life.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Practising lifelong learning, my wife and I would continue to improve ourselves.
We see Kaji getting a big treat from Peter's wife.
