FADE IN
Act 1
INT. LIVING ROOM - 11:00
Watching TV, PETER focuses on the banner information.
PETER (V.O): The typhoon signal no. 3 has been hoisted.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I've fixed two car-testing appointments today, at 1:30pm and 3:30 pm.
Peter looks out of the window.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Just cloudy. No wind or rain.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The licences of my Nissan 200SX and my SMART will expire in a week's time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I believe business should be normal for the next couple of hours.
Act 2
EXT/INT. CAR-TESTING CENTRE - 13:05
Entrance. As he drives in his signal red coupe, STAFF#1 and #2 stare at the car and Peter.
PETER: I've a car-testing appointment at 1:30...I'm early...
Reception. STAFF#3 gets a vehicle registration certificate and a credit card from Peter.
PETER (V.O): Great, my Nissan 200SX will be tested.
Having made himself a cup of coffee, Peter grabs a car magazine and flips through the pages.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Did I read this magazine the last time I came? It was many months ago...
Peter checks the car magazine's issuing month and sees "Jan/Feb Edition".
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Now is late Oct, I can't believe such a dated magazine is still on display here. This Centre is known for its great service...
Peter researches with his mobile.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Oh, the Jan/Feb edition was the car magazine's last physical edition.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The car magazine began publishing in 1979 - the year when I began buying brand new cars.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): And I had been a subscriber to the car magazine until the late 2000s when I decided I shouldn't be lured to buy more cars.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): But I'd browse through any car magazines while waiting for my old cars being tested here.
Peter re-reads the old car magazine.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The content was all about new electric vehicles.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): If any of my old cars can't be fixed, I might buy a new electric one.
Later, Peter sees car TESTER#1 driving his Nissan 200SX with pop-up headlamps back to him.
PETER: Thank you very much!
TESTER#1: Bye!
As he drives off, Peter pushes a button to retract the headlamps. STAFF#3 watches the motion with awe.
PETER (V.O): Getting old doesn't necessarily mean getting out of style.
MONTAGE OF WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
A. Roads. Peter drives his 2003 numeric blue SMART to the car-testing centre.
B. Centre. Car TESTER#2 passes a certificate to Peter.
C. Car park. While parking, a STRANGER stares at the compact car and Peter.
D. Home. Peter fixes car-testing appointments on Saturdays.
END MONTAGE
PETER (V.O): My contingency plan has been that, if my old cars don't pass the tests, I'd have them fixed in good time.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I've been spending a lot of money to maintain my six old cars.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): That's also how I indirectly support a micro car-repairing business.
Act 3
INT. LIVING ROOM - 21:00
Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Legacy in Motion ..." to a draft in his Surface.
PETER (V.O): Representing memories and personal history, I’ve strong emotional connections with my cherished possessions - cars included.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Car culture has its community aspects. Shared interest on smart cars can foster alternative connections.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Meanwhile, I'm feeling the tension between appreciating the past and embracing the future.
