Leveraging Time

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. APARTMENT - LIFT - 12:35


  4. PETER switches off the Clavinova.


  5. PETER (V.O.): I manage to practise the keyboard a bit.


  6. Putting his smart phone close to his ear, Peter opens the main door.


  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The online conference from 10:00 won't end until after 13:00, but I've to go to a meeting point in good time.


  8. Peter continues to listen.


  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The Australian Speaker was a WTO Counselor who assisted me in two international IP-related disputes from 2004-2005.


  10. Listening.


  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He gave a lot of attention to details. Doctorate aside, he speaks English, French, Spanish and Chinese.


  12. Pausing.


  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): We've lost contact since 2005; but I remember him well.


  14. Act 2


  15. EXT. ROADS TO NANSHA, MAINLAND CHINA - 14:30


  16. Sitting in single seat of a coach, Peter is having a chicken pie.


  17. PETER (V.O.): I didn't have time to have lunch in a restaurant.


  18. After that, Peter checks two QR codes on his phone screen.


  19. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I'm taking a day trip to mainland China, I've my health declaration codes ready not just for entering but for leaving too.


  20. Later, Peter chats with a young MAN sitting near him.


  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He's the student representative in the university Council.


  22. Chatting.


  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He's just age 20 and has been having high-level exposure.


  24. Chatting.


  25. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Leveraging time, I believe he can become a student-entrepreneur.


  26. EXT/INT. MINXIN SCHOOL, NASHA - 16:00


  27. Arriving stylish premises, Peter sees from inside the coach a PARTY waiting at the entrance.


  28. PETER (V.O.): This is welcoming!


  29. As the visiting GUESTS including Peter alight the coach, the hosting party greet them with smiling faces.


  30. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is warm.


  31. After a group photo session, Peter begins to engage with the DEPUTY PRINCIPAL and the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL.


  32. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Well, they speak very good English.


  33. Lecture theatre. Watching a video clip on a large screen, we hear: ...the medium of instruction is English...


  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Ah, the School mission is to nurture broad-minded, biliterate and trilingual students with roots in Hong Kong, a heart of China and a global outlook.


  35. Later, Peter has a chat with the PRESIDENT of HKUST (GZ).


  36. PETER: Why are you here?


  37. PRESIDENT: To check out my future students!


  38. Later, as they, Peter is given a bag of souvenirs.


  39. PETER (V.O.): A good way to make visitors remembering the School.


  40. On board the coach, Peter checks the souvenirs and sees a photo.


  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Ha! That's how I exceed the expectations of invited overseas visitors to Hong Kong when I was with the Intellectual Property Department (IPD).


  42. MONTAGE OF PETER'S ACTIVITIES IN WELCOMING VISITORS (1990s-2014)


  43. A. At the lift lobby, Peter waits for the arrival of the visitor and greets him/her with a smiling face.


  44. B. Assisted by a COLLEAGE, Peter then invites the visitor to take a photo with him next to the IPD logo.


  45. C. Conference room. Peter does a dynamic presentation with audio-visual aides and then reinforces the takeaway messages in the Q&A session.


  46. D. When the visitor leaves, Peter presents some souvenirs including a photo that they've just taken.


  47. RETURN TO PRESENT


  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'd invite the visitor to lunch if the time is mutually convenient.


  49. EXT/INT. HKUST (GZ) - 17:30


  50. As the visiting party meet the faculty HEADS and STUDENTS, they introduce themselves in turn.


  51. PETER:...I was a civil servant for 40 years... I'm working in retirement...

  53. INT. LIFT - APARTMENT - 22:35


  54. Appearing, Peter gets a phone notification. We see a HKUST (GZ) press release with featured photos.

  56. PETER (V.O.): High productivity comes from leveraging time by doing the right things efficiently.


  57. Pausing.


  58. ETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's a result of intelligent planning and focused execution - a commitment to do better, all the time.


  59. Pausing.


  60. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): A first impression can be the last, I'll continue to make mine long-lasting.
