FADE IN
Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - 18:00
With tired eyes, PETER puts away his smart phone.
PETER (V.O.): The cases of my clients remind me that life is full of challenges.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Doing things diligently is better than occasionally.
Opening a flute case, Peter assembles a "King" flute.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I feel the urge to play it daily.
Tapping his iPad Mini, a music sheet of "Butterfly Lovers" appears on screen.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's a melody in my heart, driving me to practise.
Holding the flute across his body and putting his fingers on the keys, Peter anchors his lips to the blow hole.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My lip and breath control isn't good. The low C note is particularly hard to blow. Decent notes don't come easy.
Act 2
FLASHBACK
INT. SITTING ROOM - EARLIER
Peter is playing a Kawai piano. We hear decent piano music of the song "Imagine".
PETER (V.O.): Weeks ago, I couldn't even play one piano chord properly.
Finishing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As I play, I understand the harmony and melody. I also imagine how the song was composed.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Time to learn to play another song "Let it be" for the same reasons.
Tapping the screen of his iPad Mini, Peter watches YouTube piano tutorials attentively.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The on-line tutors teach playing the same song differently.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Their works accidentally complement each other. I can have the best of both worlds.
Peter taps "Rewind".
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I need to learn the fingerings properly.
Peter plays FA-DF-EG-CE-BbD-AC-Bb-FA-EG with the long fingers of his right hand, and then the low octaves of F-E-D-C-Bb-A-G-F-C with the short fingers of his left hand.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe the guitar-riff like arrangement has something to do with the shape of fingerings.
Practising just a little, Peter stops.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I don't want to disturb my wife too much.
INT. BEDROOM - LATER
Having played a few bass riffs with a viola electric bass guitar, Peter stops to massage his left hand pinky.
PETER (V.O.) : Last week when I was out of my first quarantine, I played a lot the long-scale bass guitar in the standing position.
Massaging.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The bass guitar was heavy, its neck long and string tension strong. I was sweating all over after each session.
Peter examines his swollen pinky.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I sustained repetitive injuries without knowing it.
Resting, Peter checks emails.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, those instructing me have sent me files to read.
Peter puts aside the bass guitar.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Earlier, I was thinking when I play the rhythm guitar, I might cook up a new melody.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Now, my creative mood is gone, as I can't set my mind free.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The interest of my clients comes first. I must study the files right away to understand the legal issues.
Peter begins to read the small prints on screen.
END FLASHBACK
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
Having played "Butterfly Lovers" a couple of times, Peter looks pleased.
PETER (V.O.): Life is like a flute. Apparently, it's empty and has many holes in it.
Disassembling the flute, Peter uses a tissue to wipe off the moisture and finger marks.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But if I work on it diligently and skilfully, I can play sweet music.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Sweet music isn't from the flute, it's through the flute.
Reflecting.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Healthy breathing aside, it's good to feel the music of my life.
I THE END
