INT. STUDY - 07:30
PETER is changing.
PETER (V.O.): Today is the first time I appear in court with a friend of over 30 years.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was only last Friday afternoon that I knew I was wanted to appear with his junior in a pre-trial review.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And I've been trying to assist in the process.
Peter checks a small wardrobe.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Perhaps, I should wear something lucky then.
Peter continues to change.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Are there any rules of luck?
Act 2
EXT. MTR CABIN - 08:15
Peter is glued to his smart phone.
PETER (V.O.): While travelling, I can only read e-copies of filed court documents.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Those instructing me and my senior know the case much better than me.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The reasoning being I only got them yesterday evening and then there was a lengthy conference.
Peter touches his bulky brief case.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've the white book and some eye-catching post-it tapes with me.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know how is it like to be addressing the Judge while standing on one's feet.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): One can't find and see anything on the bar table unless one is guided to them.
INT. COURT - 09:00
Public area. Arriving, Peter checks the few SOULS around.
PETER (V.O.): I'm the first of the legal team to arrive.
Courtroom. Sitting at the far left of the bar table, Peter puts post-it tabs on certain pages of the white book.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Not sure if the Orders and Rules would be referred to in the hearing.
The Court is in session. COUNSEL and Peter's senior address the JUDGE. We hear: My Lord...My Lord...
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a junior, there's nothing much I can help.
Later, we hear a query from the Judge.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The matter we're dealing with is out of the ordinary.
Immediately, Peter sticks a post-it tab against a para of the white book and passes it to his SENIOR who reads it and responds to the query.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Great, the issue is resolved.
The session is adjourned.
SENIOR: Peter, thank you for passing me that para to read.
PETER: Pleasure!
PETER (V.O.): I've actually helped in the end. Lucky me!
INT. LIPPO CHIUCHOW GARDEN - 12:15
Peter and his Senior are having lunch.
PETER (V.O.): We should celebrate!.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I know I couldn't follow up with this case even if I'm wanted again.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The milestone hearing dates clash with my travel itinerary. My wife and I are going to witness our younger daughter's graduation ceremony in UK.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Not everything is chance.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 19:30
Peter is watching TV.
PETER (V.O.): I love learning by doing and by reflecting on the experience.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe luck can be helped by labour, skill and judgment - the smarter I work, the luckier I'm.
Smiling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's good to remember just how lucky I really am.
