Ignoring phone notifications, PETER goes to bed.
PETER (V.O.): I believe they're New Year wishes after the countdown.
Peter pulls a quilt.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Any new year is just another going-on.
INT. STUDY - 10:00
Tapping iMovie on screen, Peter checks his movie projects and finds My Very Best Wishes.
PETER (V.O.): I've shot some video clips for this.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): How significant are wishes?
Peter edits a project.
Act 2
INT. SITTING ROOM - 11:30
Peter is checking a lengthy mail.
PETER (V.O.): It's from my Australian friend.
Reading.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Since 2001, he has been sharing his family stories for the past year with me and wishing me and my family well on Chinese New Year day.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In 2000, I gave him some advice about his family and he has been updating me.
Reading.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Great to know how his family has developed from one stage to another.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He and his family visited us and I reciprocated.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): He loves cars much more than I do. He maintains his 60-year old Jaguar E convertible and contributes to car magazines.
INT. DINING ROOM - 12:00
Peter and his WIFE are having fried turnip cakes and chicken congee.
PETER (V.O.): My late first mother-in-law used to prepare them for us when we did our New Year visits.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My son will pay us a visit soon and we'd have another round.
Later. Peter, SON and his wife are having fried turnip cakes and chicken congee again.
SON: May the New Year bless Dad & Mom with health, wealth and happiness.
Son gets red packets.
PETER: With health, wealth and happiness etc follow.
Later, Peter sees his son off.
EXT. ROADS - 18:30
Peter is driving his wife and KAJI, the family pet.
PETER : Despite the pandemic, I still think it right to pay New Year visits.
Pausing.
PETER (Cont'd): Our families' senior members are getting very old.
His wife nods.
PETER: Last year, we didn't pay any New Year visits.
His wife doesn't respond.
PETER (V.O.): My second mother-in-law passed away in Jan 2021.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Traditional culture is that unlucky ones should avoid mingling with others during festive times.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Health trumps all. We shouldn't let sickness make us realise the value of health.
Peter drives on.
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 23:30
Peter is checking phone notifications.
PETER (V.O.): More New Year wishes to me and my family.
Peter replies with his My Very Good Wishes music video.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Fantastic things can happen. It all starts with a wish.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But the way to make a wish happen is to begin doing.
Peter goes to bed.
