Some Sunshine

  1. FADE IN


  2. Act 1


  3. INT. BATHROOM/SITTING ROOM - 15:30


  4. Appearing, PETER sees the shower door is open. He then finds TAI GOU, the family pet turtle, hiding in a corner.


  5. PETER (V.O.): You haven't exercised enough this morning?


  6. Putting Tai Kou back into the shower area, Peter closes the shower door. He returns to the sitting room and sees some sunshine on the floor.


  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For the past couple of days, I've been looking for some sunshine. But rain was what I got most of the time.


  8. Pausing.


  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My family's sole focus have been on the dying Nana, Tai Kou's partner for over 15 years.


  10. Pausing.


  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Last night was cold and stormy, my wife covered Nana with a special blanket.


  12. Pausing.


  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I woke up this morning, I saw the sky was blue and the sun was up.


  14. Act 2


  15. FLASHBACK


  16. INT. KITCHEN - 09:30


  17. Sun shines through a window. Peter places Nana in such a way that she faces the sun.

  18. PETER (V.O.): Oh, Nana's eyes beam.


  19. EXT. PARK - 10:45


  20. A space. As Peter puts Nana in front of Tai Kou, he sees Tai Kou refusing to engage.


  21. PETER (V.O.): Here's exclusive. But there's no sunshine.


  22. EXT. PROMENADE - 12:15


  23. Sunshine. Having put Nana on a bench, Peter lets Tai Kou explore the ground.


  24. PETER (V.O.): The sunshine should warm our bodies and hearts.


  25. A PARTY with a wheel-chaired ELDERLY walk past and see Tai Kou.


  26. PARTY: What's that? It's a turtle!

  27. A MAN and a young BOY walk past and see Tai Kou running.


  28. BOY: The turtle runs pretty fast!


  29. MAN: Who says they're slow?


  30. Other PASSERS-BY give special attention on what Nana is wearing in her back.


  31. PETER (V.O.): Nana, they should know your name. You're somebody, not just in our world.


  32. Peter keeps watching where Tai Kou's exploring.


  33. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The beautiful thing about this morning is that I get the chance to make our lives better than before.


  34. Peter checks the phone clock and sees 12:00.


  35. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's time. Our appointment with the exotic hospital is at 13:15.


  36. EXT. PARK - 12:15


  37. Walking. Holding Nana in her box and carrying Tai Kou in another bag, Peter stares at Nana all the time. Then Nana reacts to a ray of sunshine.


  38. PETER (V.O.): Oh, Nana has the urge to stretch her front and back claws...

  39. Peter then sees Nana making a 60 degree turn.


  40. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Oh, this is her first turn since Dec 14, 2022!

  41. INT. HOME - 12:30


  42. Having narrated what he has seen, Peter leaves with his WIFE and their SON. It's Peter's wife's turn to carry Nana in her box lovingly.


  43. EXT. ROADS - 12:45


  44. Sitting in the middle row of a car with Nana, Peter takes photos and videos of Nana tirelessly.


  45. EXT. STREETS - 13:00


  46. It's the son's turn to carry Nana lovingly.


  47. WIFE: Now is the time to disclose a secret...Soon after I bought a pair of turtles, one died.


  48. Son looks perplexed.


  49. WIFE (Cont'd): I quickly bought a similar one so that when you came home after school, you still saw a pair of turtles.


  50. PETER: Motherhood is great!


  51. INT. CONSULTATION ROOM, EXOTIC HOSPITAL - 13:15


  52. Peter, his wife and their son take a group selfie with Nana before an ASSISTANT takes Nana away.


  53. RETURN TO PRESENT


  54. Act 3


  55. INT. SITTING ROOM/BATH ROOM - CONTINUOUS


  56. Hearing a sound, Peter goes to the bathroom and sees the shower door is open again.

  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Where's Tai Kou this time? He knows how to open the shower door and has the drive to do so.


  58. Seeing Tai Kou hiding in a corner again, Peter just closes the bathroom door and walks on some sunshine on the floor.


  59. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Some sunshine is good for the soul. To see or create it, one has to weather the storm.


  60. THE END
