PETER (V.O.): I've a lunch meeting at the Science Park today.
Researching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's about R&D of integrated circuit (IC) design and manufacturing.
Researching.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'd better keep myself update on the current tech development.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I joined the Intellectual Property Dept (IPD) in 1992, I was charged with the responsibility to design a law protecting IC topography...
Act 2
INT. CLUBONE, SCIENCE PARK - 12:45
Peter sits on the left of the HOST. The Host introduces GENTLEMAN#1 on his right to Peter.
HOST: An IC doctor from South Korea...
PETER: Months ago, I was in Seoul, visiting my elder daughter and her boyfriend. She's learning Korean at Seoul National University.
GENTLEMAN#2 joins and sits next to Peter.
PETER: I'm Peter.
GENTELMAN#2: I'm Kuma...
PETER: That's Japanese...
KUMA: I've Japanese clients. I'm actually from Shenzhen...You speak Japanese?
PETER: I'm learning...three of my four children speak Japanese...
KUMA: I majored in IC in Hunan University. Upon graduation, I went to Shenzhen.
PETER: It's a zone of opportunities. Even entrepreneurs from Inner Mongolia would go there.
KUMA: I've been in the memory chip business for over 20 years and have many English-speaking clients...
When ALL are seated, Peter introduces himself briefly.
PETER: I designed the Hong Kong law on the protection of layout-design (topography) of IC.
Pausing.
PETER (Cont'd): The Hong Kong legislature passed the law in 1994 without any query.
LADY#1: The law makers might not know what it's all about...
PETER: It was quite new. A Taiwan friend was anxious to have a copy.
PETER (Cont'd): Knowing its complexity, I made the law as user-friendly as possible so that Hong Kong can be a hub for the R&D of the deep tech.
LADY#2: We'd invite you to talk more about it.
As food is put on the table, all begin to eat. Peter talks to Kuma.
PETER: I'm not a techie. Although I can't be innovative, I can be creative.
KUMA: What do you do?
PETER: Eg, I write and publish screenplays daily. I've accumulated over 1000 works.
Tapping his smartphone, Peter shows Kuma and Lady#3 his screenplays with images.
KUMA: You must be enjoying the creative process...How did it start?
PETER: When I was heading IPD, I wanted to showcase to all the creativity in us.
Peter shows them the screenplay of "Kaji: Me Versus Me", highlighting his photo and AI drawing.
KUMA: You did all that? Can I take a photo of it?
PETER: Yes!
PETER (V.O.): It's good that my stuff is appreciated.
PETER (Cont'd): I even write songs for my pet.
LADY#3: I can understand that. I've a pet too.
KUMA: You're the most interesting person I've ever met!
PETER: Is that right?
PETER (V.O.): Perhaps, tech can make people to be human again.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 23:30
Peter works on his laptop.
PETER (V.O.): With tech, humans need not be idiots, we can extend themselves.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Must human ties prevail over tech ties? Tech, like art, requires the exercise of intensive intellectual effort.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To me, the impact of tech-cum-humanity need not be imagined but can be seen.
Peter stares at one of his AI drawings.
