Reception. PETER is greeted by RECEPTIONISTS#1 & 2.
RECEPTIONIST#1: You're always early for meetings.
Peter smiles.
PETER: I'll grab a cup of chocolate first.
Harbour view foyer. Having placed his cup of chocolate on a coffee table, Peter takes out a packet of sandwich from his brief case.
PETER (V.O.): I've just bought it before coming up. I haven't had anything since 7am. I've been busy at work.
Peter checks the time on a wall clock.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My hunger and thirst, and my timeliness dictate my priorities and choices now.
Peter eats and drinks quickly.
Act 2
MONTAGE OF PETER'S BUSY DAY (Part 1)
A Study. 06:00. Peter is reading a thick book.
B. Offices. 09:00. Peter discusses with STAFF#1-4.
C. Court#1. 09:25. Peter discusses with COUNSEL#1.
D. Court#1. 09:35. Peter prosecutes DEFENDENTS#1-6.
E. Offices, 11:00. Peter discuses with COUNSEL#2.
F. Court#2. 12:00. Peter chats with COUNSEL#3.
G. Court#2. 12:50. Peter submits to the BENCH.
H. Office. 13:30. Peter passes a file to his ASSISTANT.
END MONTAGE
PETER (V.O.): I enjoyed my chat with a counsel who would complete her "Baby fiat" today.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I did my "Baby fiat" in 1986. apart from a fortnight prosecutions in a Magistracy, I also did a full month in the District Court.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And I was surprised that the bench took notice of seniority in the profession.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In taking a verdict of a trial heard a fortnight ago, I was surprised that a capable counsel couldn't get her client acquitted.
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In general, I've observed that laymen believe hiring the best lawyers would keep the law away from them.
Finishing his lunch, Peter enters a conference room. We see LADIES & GENTLEMEN.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm now a member of this group as I've become a Vice-chairman of a HKUST Committee.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've even declined a brief to do today's voluntary work here.
Having followed a presentation, Peter makes several interventions.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's the team role I should play.
We hear ringtones and then "Unknown Caller". Peter find his smartphone in his brief case and ends the call.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): This is embarrassing.
Peter tries to refocus.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Some of the unknown callers relate my practice.
Then, Peter sees a phone message requesting a return call.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Not now. The meeting hasn't come to an end yet.
Peter checks the time.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But I often get urgent briefs around this time of the day.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Am I still trying to do more as if I could live forever?
Peter looks disturbed.
Act 3
INT. BUSINESS SCHOOL, HKUST - 17:00
Sitting in a sofa at the foyer with his smart phone in hand, Peter checks his missed calls and then the emails.
PETER (V.O.): Oh, I've got notice of a prospective appointment as a sole Panelist of a domain name dispute.
Peter types and sends his reply.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): By default, I'm still doing a little more each day than I think I possibly can!
Thinking.
PETER (V.O.): But I can't be busier than others. We've the same 24 hours. As a senior citizen, I must think deeper about my life priorities.
Reception. Receptionist #2 and Peter wave goodbye to each other.
