Through Clouds and Courage

  3. INT. STUDY/STUDIO - 10:00


  4. Lying on a sofa, PETER 's face reflects weariness.


  5. PETER (V.O.): I didn't sleep well last night.


  6. Looking out of the window, Peter sees dark clouds and rain dominating the sky.


  7. PETER (V.O.): I haven't swum for three days in a row.


  8. Listening to the finance radio, Peter hears the Hang Seng Index falling over 200 points.

  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm invisible in the market economy.


  10. Peter looks restless.


  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Perhaps time is right to average down?

  12. Tapping a securities App on his smartphone, Peter does trade orders.


  13. Act 2


  14. EXT. STREET - 13:30


  15. Heavy clouds. Peter walks towards a public swimming pool.


  16. PETER (V.O.): Swimming in an indoor pool nearby is the only convenient option today.

  17. We see a feeble ray of sunlight breaking through the clouds.


  18. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): How nice! I don't expect the little brightness.


  19. Gazing at the silver of light.


  20. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It facilitates hope to blossom. It overpowers shadows that have clouded one's thoughts.


  21. Gazing.


  22. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): One should step out of one's troubled mind into the realm of positivity.


  23. EXT. PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL - 14:45


  24. A wet-haired Peter exits.


  25. PETER (V.O.): I feel refreshed. I'll reward myself with an afternoon tea set.


  26. We see dark clouds reappearing again.


  27. INT. STUDIO/STUDY - 17:00


  28. We hear Peter playing the French song "La Mer" (Beyond the Sea) on piano.


  29. PETER (V.O.): I'm progressing, little by little.


  30. Finishing.


  31. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The song's reharmonized jazzy version is complicated; but I'll learn it.


  32. As Peter's watching the news, we hear: More than 2000 dead in the Morocco 6.8 magnitude earthquake...widespread devastation...rescuers race to find survivors...


  33. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Having experienced a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Tokyo years ago, I can feel the fear and other worries.


  34. Thinking.


  35. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Like rainstorms, earthquakes are natural occurrences.


  36. Pausing.


  37. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The devastation they cause is a result of their interaction with human civilization.


  38. Pausing.


  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When natural occurrences happen in highly populated areas or regions with inadequate infrastructure, the potential for devastation and loss of life increases.


  40. Pausing.


  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): In such cases, the responsibility lies not with nature itself but with human factors such as emergency preparedness.


  42. Pausing.


  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): However, humans are prone to let incidents that require some responses become emergencies that pose an immediate and significant threat.


  44. Pausing.


  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If timely actions aren't taken, crises that require strategic and adaptive responses at various levels for an extended period of time will result.

  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When there's a need for crisis management, it signifies the lack of leadership at various levels all along.

  49. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Individually, one can't lead oneself if one is an enemy to oneself.

  51. INT. STUDIO - 23:00

  52. Having input the prompt: "Through Clouds and Courage" in an AI art generator in his smartphone, Peter sees a cubist image appearing.


  53. PETER (V.O.): Living a life, we all face challenges. What we do with the challenges define ourselves.


  54. Pausing.


  55. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For involuntary challenges that are beyond my control, I've the courage to act in ways to mitigate the negativity immediately.


  56. Checking emails, Peter sees his trading orders have expired.


  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): For voluntary challenges like on my own creativity limit, I'm committed to making a difference to uplift myself programmatically.


  58. Peter's face reflects unwavering determination.
