Ties That Stretch

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. BEDROOM - 08:30


  4. PETER wakes up.


  5. PETER (V.O.): My main task today is to drive my elder daughter to the Airport. She's returning to Seoul.


  6. From a bedside drawer, Peter takes out a pile of cash.


  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I know just too well how life is like when one is short of it.


  8. INT. DINING ROOM - 09:00


  9. Peter's elder DAUGHTER is enjoying mushroom rice.


  10. PETER: Yesterday's left over?


  11. DAUGHTER: No. I bought two boxes yesterday. This is the other one. They aren't available in Seoul.


  12. As Peter passes the pile of cash to her, her daughter says "Thank you."


  13. PETER (V.O.): The little support I can do as Dad. She is still a student.


  14. Act 2


  15. EXT. PARKING BAY - 11:45


  16. A parked Previa. Packing her daughter's baggage into the car, Peter's face is fixed with mixed emotions, subtly masked beneath a composed demeanour.


  17. PETER: Check if your passport is with you.


  18. DAUGHTER (having checked): Yes.


  19. EXT. ROADS TO AIRPORT - CONTINUOUS


  20. Inside the car, father and daughter talk with unspoken sentiments.


  21. PETER (V.O.): We've taken many trips with this car to school. They feel like yesterday.


  22. Talking.


  23. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I believe she remembers the cherished moments.


  24. EXT. AIRPORT - CONTINUOUS


  25. Roadside. Getting out of the car, Peter goes to grab a trolley.


  26. PETER (V.O.): I've got to do what fathers do.


  27. Father and daughter unload the baggage and put them on the trolley.


  28. PETER: There you go. I've got to rush to Central to attend a meeting.


  29. Driving away, Peter takes another look of his daughter.


  30. EXT. MTR CABIN - 14:00


  31. Being consumed by thoughts, Peter glances at his smartphone, checking subtly incoming messages from his daughter.


  32. PETER (V.O.): Boarding soon. Lots of Koreans...


  33. Pausing.


  34. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Like you, they've come to Hong Kong for holidays and are returning.


  35. We see Peter typing on screen: Overhear what they say and enjoy your flight!


  36. EXT. REPULSE BAY - 16:30


  37. From a buoy line, Peter swims towards a floating platform.


  38. PETER (V.O.): For the past few days, I kept my family company and didn't go swimming.


  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It's my first time here in the afternoon...


  40. We follow Peter and see the beach being dotted with TOURISTS taking photos.


  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I can't see my belongings on the beach.


  42. Worrying.


  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'd better swim back now to check it out.


  44. EXT. ROADS TO CENTRAL - 17:30


  45. Sitting on the upper deck of a full bus, Peter checks message notifications and sees: landed. His face illuminates with a delicate smile.


  46. PETER (V.O.): She has arrived safely.


  47. Later, Peter opens a photo message and sees his daughter's boyfriend taking care of the baggage in the Seoul Airport.


  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): She's surrounded by caring souls.


  49. As some PASSENGERS sitting near Peter alight, OTHERS rush to take their window seats to take video clips.


  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Isn't Hong Kong a nice place?


  51. Act 3


  52. INT. BEDROOM - 21:30

  53. Having input the prompt: "Ties That Stretch" in an AI art generator in his smartphone, Peter sees a cubist image appearing.


  54. PETER (V.O.): Ties represent the deep connection and love between my daughter and me.

  55. Pausing


  56. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Despite the physical separation, our father-and-daughter relationship is strong and we've the ability to endure.


  57. Thinking.


  58. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The ties that stretch is our unbreakable bond - a source of strength and support for us.
