FADE IN
Act 1
INT. BEDROOM - 10:00
Appearing, PETER sees his WIFE sleeping like a baby.
PETER (V.O): I've already maintained my Duolingo streaks in seven languages.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): My wife and some classmates have already enrolled a higher level Korean course.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Ah, they prefer the conventional way to learn a new language. When the course is over, they couldn't wait.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I don't have such a problem. I'm learning something every day.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): My wife and I will join a class party this Sunday. But the teacher is hesitating...Don't want to tell others I've failed?
Act 2
INT. STUDIO - 14:00
Peter takes out a Gibson acoustic guitar from a gig bag.
PETER (V.O.): My wife has resumed her keep-fit program...and I'd resume mine...
Peter then takes out a Korg rhythm box and connects it with a peddle switch.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I want to record my favourite song with some Korean lyrics.
On an iPad Mini, Peter taps the iMovie app to create a movie project.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): All my MV's have been produced like that.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I want to showcase to all what I can do with such handy devices.
Having tapped the recording icon on iMovie, Peter steps on the peddle switch, strums his guitar and attempts to sing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Cantonese and English are fine, but I can't remember the Korean lyrics.
As he writes some Korean words on a used envelope, Peter practises the pronunciations as well.
PETER: The verses are...haengbogghan salm...hunhunhan sungan...
Pausing.
PETER(Cont'd): The chorus...eoseo eoseo hamkke gaseyo...eoseo eoseo hamkke gaseyo...
Repeating.
PETER (V.O): Let me re-start recording.
Having sung the verses of a song, Peter stops.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I doubt if my pronunciations of "hamkke" are correct.
Grabbing his mobile, Peter listens to the Google Translate pronunciations.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): About right.
After several re-takings, Peter stops.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I've two acceptable takes. And I don't want to let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Putting aside his gadgets, Peter picks up his swimming bag.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): When I return, I'll add the visuals and share the new MV, and then I'll focus on my professional work.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I want to impress my teacher in Korean and my classmates timely that as elderly I've learned some Korean, nonetheless.
FLASHBACK
INT. HKUSPACE - 10:10 (Sept 8, 2024)
Gents' room. A black-haired MAN is shocked to see the white-haired Peter.
MAN (To Peter): Have you just done the written exam of Introductory Korean?
PETER: Yes.
MAN: You look so learned... How old are you? 70?
PETER: You're right...I just want to compare the conventional way with the Duolingo way of learning languages...
END FLASHBACK
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Actually, I can't follow the conventional pace.
Act 3
INT. BEDROOM - 21:45
Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Trilingual Tunes..." to a draft in his laptop.
PETER (V.O): I've shared my MV with my young teacher and classmates. Music serves as a powerful medium for connection, fostering relationships.
From the Bluetooth speakers, we hear the Beach Boys singing in English and Japanese: Sumahama, soko wa koi suru hitotachi ga...
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): The use of multiple languages highlights the beauty of diversity and the joy of bringing different backgrounds together.
On his mobile, Peter checks the reactions to his shared MV.
PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): One even wants to jam with me in the Sunday party. I'm beginning to breakthrough the generational gaps.
