Tuning Life's Chords

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. BEDROOM - 08:15


  4. Sunlight filters through the curtains. PETER wakes up.


  5. PETER (V.O.): I'm free from tiredness. My mind is clear.


  6. Getting out of bed, Peter does push-ups.


  7. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I feel my body light.


  8. Peter then checks his mobile diary.


  9. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Good, no appointment today. See if I can write a song in the morning.


  10. Pausing.


  11. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'd like to visit Yuen Long again in the afternoon. And if time permits, I'll go back to my NT home too.


  12. Act 2


  13. INT. STUDIO - 09:45


  14. Mobile in hand, Peter is in thoughts.


  15. PETER (V.O.): I want the lyrics simple, powerful and rhymed.


  16. Peter modifies a verse line to read as: ...inspiring all life long.


  17. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): There's a lot in these four words.


  18. Strumming a Fender 12-string acoustic guitar, we hear the chords of F, F, C, C.


  19. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): In composing this song, I'm taking the lyrics-driven approach again.


  20. Peter turns on the rhythm box as well.


  21. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I hope to get a catchy tune.


  22. Strumming chords C, G, Am, F to beats and striving to sing the lyrics.


  23. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): No, they don't sound good.


  24. Peter strums the chords C, C, F, G.


  25. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): And if they sound good, I'd worry if I'm copying subconsciously.


  26. Later, we see Peter hitting the recording icon on his mobile and singing: Who shines with such grace - adding values in every place? Whose spirit is so strong - ...


  27. EXT. SHUI PIN TSUEN - 14:30


  28. Peter gets off from a route 286c bus smilingly.


  29. PETER (V.O.): I'm here again. The last time was in 1971.


  30. Peter scans the surroundings of the bus stop.


  31. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I couldn't tell which shop was the one that was a bakery back in 1966...


  32. Recalling.


  33. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Then, I dreamt about having pineapple buns and a bottle of hot Vitasoy here.


  34. Peter takes a photo of a school opposite to the bus stop.


  35. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): That was the Shung Tak College where I studied from 1966-1971.


  36. Searching and recalling.


  37. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Where's the zebra crossing?


  38. Peter can only see light rail tracks in the middle of the road.


  39. MONTAGE OF PETER'S OTHER ACTIVIITIES


  40. A Yuen Long Swimming pool. Peter swims laps and bumps into the same SWIMMER a few times.


  41. B. Restaurant, Kau Yuk Road. As the only customer, Peter is having fish ball noodles in tomato soup.


  42. C. Outlet, Castle Peak Road. Peter buys a couple of items costing $15 each.


  43. D. Driveway, Peter's NT home. Peter jumpstarts his red coupe and lets the engine run.


  44. E. Staircase, Peter's NT home. Having browsed through some box files marked "WTO Panel", Peter dumps them into a large garbage bag.


  45. F. Studio, Peter's NT home. Peter plays some Jazz chord progressions on a piano which is out of tune.


  46. G. MTR cabin. Mobile in hand, Peter is researching on something.


  47. RETURN TO PRESENT


  48. INT. STUDIO - 20:00


  49. The Fender acoustic guitar by his side, Peter looks at the calluses on this left hand fingertips.

  50. PETER (V.O.): I've joint strains too.


  51. Peter stretches his fingers.


  52. Act 3


  53. INT. BEDROOM - 23:00


  54. Working on a laptop, Peter inserts an AI drawing entitled "Tuning Life's Chords..." into a draft.


  55. PETER (V.O): The title symbolizes finding the right balance in life such as between leisurely activities and practical tasks.


  56. Pausing.


  57. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Life has different aspects, like chords on guitar or piano. Fine-tuning various elements can create harmony.


  58. Thinking.


  59. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've the desire to find my life's rhythm. Wherever there's rhythm, there's music, just like wherever there beats a pulse, there's life.
