Unseen Threads

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. STUDY - 21:00


  4. Having watched a video clip entitled "shorten trousers without cutting them" on his smartphone screen, PETER presses the "repeat" icon.


  5. PETER (V.O.): This is like magic.


  6. MONTAGE OF INVISIBLE HEMMING


  7. A. Determine the desired length of the trousers. Mark the new hemline with pins.


  8. B. Fold the fabric inside the trousers along the marked hemline, creating a double layer of fabric.


  9. C. Insert a threaded needle into the fabric, starting from the inside. Make small stitches along the hemline, catching both layers of the fabric.


  10. D. Reaching the end of the hemline, make a small knot on the inside of the trousers to secure the thread.

  12. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Wow, this invisible technique allows for alterations that are virtually unseen from the outside.

  14. FLASHBACK


  15. INT. STUDY -12:15 (Earlier today)


  16. An iPad mini by his side, Peter presses the red "leave" icon to leave a Zoom meeting.


  17. PETER (V.O.): I meant to join the meeting in person but the tropical storm "Kionu"'s visit to Hong Kong has frustrated my plan.


  18. Pausing.


  19. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): With Zoom, "Kionu" couldn't prevent us from meeting as scheduled.


  20. Pausing.


  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Moreover, I've saved the travelling time.


  22. INT. SITTING ROOM - 12:30


  23. Peter and his WIFE are watching TV news which highlights the Israel-Hamas war and the Afghanistan earthquake.


  24. PETER (V.O.): War disrupts infrastructure. Earthquake strains resources.


  25. We see on screen images of warships and flattened villages.

  26. PETER (V.O.): OMG, thousands of deaths...numbers are mounting...


  27. Having sighed, Peter talks to his wife.


  28. PETER: Would you like to eat out with me before you go back to work?


  29. WIFE: I'll just have noodles at home.


  30. PETER: I'll eat out later...


  31. PETER (V.O.): Having done my work today, I want to reward myself a little.


  32. Peter goes to play the piano.


  33. INT. STUDY - 14:00


  34. Seeing a phone notification from 文心一言, Peter signs in with a mainland Chinese telephone number.


  35. PETER (V.O.): Oh, success!


  36. Thinking.


  37. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me test my assistant's capabilities.


  38. Peter types: Write the lyrics of a bilingual love song. We see the bilingual results emerging on screen.


  39. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But they aren't rhymed. I can write better ones.


  40. Peter types: Can you write the music of the song as well? We see a short reply in language.


  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The regret isn't unexpected.


  42. Peter types: Can you depict the mood of the song in a drawing then? Immediately, a colourful drawing featuring a blue butterfly appearing on screen. Peter looks amazed.


  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Wow, that's the edge! And love is blue.


  44. INT. RESTAURANT - 14:45


  45. Peter is having noodles and screentime at the same time.


  46. PETER (V.O.): It's still raining outside. But I like to follow the sun.


  47. Peter surfs the websites on extended weather forecasts and travel agents.

  48. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Seizing opportunities, I'm going to fix my October travel.


  49. Then, Peter sees family chatgroup messages.


  50. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): But it's rather hard to strike a balance between my solo travel and family connections.


  51. RETURN TO PRESENT

  53. INT. STUDY - 23:00

  54. Working before his laptop, Peter gets an idea.


  55. PETER (V.O.): Navigating my life with awareness, compassion and reflection, I perceive the unseen threads that bind humanity.


  56. Peter inserts today's AI drawing into a draft on screen.


  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Events, whether artificial or natural, have ripple effects on my choices and actions.


  58. Reflecting.


  59. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): While I still can, I won't dilute any beautiful life experience.
