Verdict of Wellness

  2. Act 1


  3. INT. STUDY - 08:30


  4. PETER checks a stack of car registration licences and insurance policies.


  5. PETER (V.O.): This morning, I'll renew the licences of my Nissan 200SX and my SMART Pulse.

  6. Pausing.


  7. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): My Nissan was manufactured in 1989 and the SMART in 2003.


  8. Focusing on two roadworthy certificates, Peter checks the dates.


  9. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The cars' health checks are valid for four months. They're still good for renewal.


  10. Pausing.


  11. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As a senior citizen car owner, I've priority in queueing for counter service.

  13. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I like to think that's due to my contribution to society rather than my health limitations.


  14. Act 2


  15. INT. TRANSPORT DEPT - 10:30


  16. Counter. Peter is being served. A STAFF checks the details on papers carefully.


  17. PETER (V.O.): I love my Nissan 200SX as I want those engaging with me and myself to get 200% satisfaction out of what I deliver.


  18. Paying fees electronically.


  19. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I love my SMART Pulse, I like thinking and working SMART ie Strategically, Measurably, Accountably, Result-oriented and Time-bound.


  20. Getting the renewed licences.


  21. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Great, I can drive them for another year! In the afternoon, I'll know the result of my health check.


  22. INT. FAMILIIES CLINIC - 14:15


  23. Waiting area. Pulling his arm out of the blood pressure monitoring machine, Peter takes the paper chit to read.


  24. PETER (V.O.): Oh dear, my blood pressure is on the high side.


  25. Consultation room. Dr LAM is smiling as Peter appears.


  26. DOCTOR: You look tanned.


  27. PETER: I swim a lot. Yesterday, I was in Repulse Bay and I'll go to St. Stephen's Bay later.


  28. Pausing.

  29. PETER (Cont'd): I fear that I might get drown due to acute health issues.


  30. DOCTOR: You know your ability, and you enjoy taking the risk, right?


  31. As Peter nods, Dr Lam checks data in a report.


  32. DOCTOR: Taking drugs, your Cholesterol levels are normal. So is your blood sugar. But...


  33. Peter looks anxious.


  34. DOCTOR (Cont'd): Your eGFR is a bit low.


  35. PETER: Something wrong with my kidney as I age?


  36. DOCTOR: You're turning 70. Take life easy. Practise mindfulness. Reduce stress and anxiety.


  37. EXT. ST. STEPHEN'S BAY - 16:00


  38. Arriving, Peter sees a few BEACH-GOERS lying on beach mats.


  39. PETER (V.O.): The Repulse Bay has been conquered by tourists.


  40. Putting down his belongings, Peter undresses himself, cladding a swimming brief.


  41. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've shared with Dr Lam that I now love to connect with Nature direct.


  42. Peter lies flat on the beach's golden sand.


  43. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): And then I'll swim to the outer limits of the swimming area.

  44. Soon, Peter goes to the bay waters.


  45. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Dr Lam has also shared with me how to deal with jellyfish stings.


  46. Later, Peter lies flat on the sand again, we follow Peter to gaze at the blue sky.


  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): When I was with Government, I worked like a dog.


  48. Pausing.


  49. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I had strong work ethics. I worked long hours and exerted myself.


  50. Seeing incoming emails with attachments in his smartphone, Peter studies them and replies promptly.


  51. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Working in retirement, am I still working like a dog?


  52. Act 3


  53. INT. STUDY - 21:45


  54. Working before a laptop, Peter is in thoughts.


  55. PETER (V.O.): Regardless of work aspirations or age, health should be a priority.


  56. Instructing his assistant in Photo_CreateE, Peter types "Verdict of Wellness" on screen and an image of a woman in white appears within seconds.


  57. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Verdict is an outcome in a court proceeding. Wellness refers to overall health.


  58. Repeating his instructions, Peter finally selects one featuring a tired dog.


  59. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Regarding the pursuit of my wellness, I've now come to a firm decision.
