EXT. COURT HOUSE- 08:30
Cloudy. Stopping at a staircase, PETER captures the scene.
PETER (V.O.): What will happen to my case today?
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): It was thought by some there was no case. My role now is to prove there's one. It's an uphill struggle.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm well prepared. But no preparation is ever enough. Nothing is sure.
Taking a breath.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Let me start by doing what's necessary.
Peter arrives at the entrance.
Act 2
INT. COURT ROOM - 09:25
Sitting at the bar table, Peter has some discussion with his learned FRIEND.
PETER (V.O.): Since our telephone conversation last Friday, I've been feeling uncomfortable.
Peter then sees his learned friend throwing a pencil at the table.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): That's another warning bell.
The court is in session. Peter finishes his opening submission.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): As expected, I'm challenged upfront.
Peter follows his learned friend's opening submission.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Well, some are irrelevant; others carry little weight.
Peter is reading something aloud.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I've cooked up the best template on "Agreed Facts".
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Apart from one typo, it's flawless.
WITNESSES#1 and #2 give evidence respectively.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'm glad that they've come up to proof.
Observing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If I was the judge, I'd rule there's a prima facie case for the other side to answer.
INT. RESTAURANT - 13:30
Peter is having fried noodles.
PETER (V.O.): The court didn't adjourn until 13:15. Let me reward myself for having played my due role in the interim.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I prosecute. I don't persecute.
INT. COURT ROOM - 15:00
An ACCUSED replies to Peter's cross-examination.
PETER (V.O.): I'm so persuasive that she has agreed to what I put to her.
Peter's learned friend is surprised.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I'm confident that I've made out a case that's substantively just and procedurally fair.
The court adjourns.
INT. PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE - 17:00
In a sheet with the caption Case Result, Peter types: Convicted.
PETER (V.O.): Done! Time to check what has happened to my entrepreneurship fund.
Peter sees red numerals and (-1.66%).
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've to work four days to recover the day's loss.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): The accused has to pay a similar amount for her lawyers' fees.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): If I didn't prove the case, the tax payers would have to bear the costs. That was my main stress.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): So, I'm still very happy.
Act 3
EXT. COURT HOUSE - 17:30
Exiting, Peter sees little rain.
PETER (V.O.): I've an umbrella, but I won't use it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): After a "fight", I need to cool off.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've done what's possible!
Peter walks down the stairs.
