INT. BEDROOM - 04:30
Dark. With tired eyes, PETER checks the bedside clock.
PETER (V.O.): I've slept two cycles at best. One cycle is about 70-120 minutes
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Usually there're four to five cycles per night.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I may wake up briefly between intervals, but I shouldn't become wide awake.
Peter tosses and turns in bed.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Yesterday, I only had green tea in the morning, as I usually do.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Perhaps, I'm thirsty.
Act 2
INT. KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS
Pouring himself a cup of water, Peter drinks it, reflecting at the same time.
PETER (V.O.): Yesterday, I visited Yuen Long and had a great time. I ate and shopped as well.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): And I got a call from my car repairer that my 30-year old silver coupe had been repaired ie the ABS light wouldn't be on all the time.
Recalling.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The car repairer thought it was a mechanical problem. But when the ABS pump was replaced, the ABS light was still on.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Failing to find any sensors last week, the repairer thought it could be the car's computer problem and took it to a computer expert.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): If the coupe can't be repaired, I've no choice but to scrap it.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I couldn't pick it up right away as I was in Yuen Long. And today, I've to attend an important meeting at 9am. I'll collect the coupe after that.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Am I too anxious about attending the meeting or picking up my coupe, or both?
INT. BEDROOM - CONTINUOUS
Peter is tossing and turning in bed.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): My mind is still racing with thoughts about upcoming events.
We see Kaji sleeping peacefully beside Peter.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I'm not able to find a comfortable position.
Peter extends his hand to touch Kaji's tail.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Relaxed, her tail isn't tightly curled.
Pausing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I must learn from Kaji and fall asleep.
Later, we hear a phone alarm. It's 07:30. Peter wakes up.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I wake up tired. My day starts backwards. I'll drain my residual energy soon.
MONTAGE OF SUBSEQUENT EVENTS
A. Meeting room - 09:00. Dressed in a 3-piece suit, Peter engages actively in a meeting.
B. Men's room - 11:00. Looking tired, Peter refreshes himself with cool water.
C Meeting room - 13:00. Meeting ends, Peter leaves happily.
RETURN TO PRESENT
EXT. STREET, CENTRAL - 13:15
Peter walks towards the Central MTR station.
PETER (V.O.): Now, some of my wide-awake thoughts can go to sleep now.
INT. STUDY - 14:15
Resting on a sofa, Peter isn't having an afternoon nap.
PETER (V.O.): Reality is real when I'm wide awake. Imaginary stuff are real when I'm sound asleep.
Act 3
INT. STUDY - 20:00
Working on a laptop, Peter inserts an AI drawing into a draft.
PETER (V.O): This is the imaginary AI drawing done by the bot AnimeXL in response to my prompt "Wide Awake".
Staring at the drawing.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): The unexpected can happen, like the surprising turnaround of my coupe being repaired. It's now in my car park.
Staring at the drawing again.
PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I just hope that this AI drawing won't keep me wide awake tonight.
