Winter Solstice Tales

  3. INT. STUDY - 08:30


  4. Sitting in a sofa, PETER checks his bank account on mobile screen.


  5. PETER (V.O): My monthly pension has arrived early.


  6. Flipping through bills.


  7. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I can settle them early so that I can fully enjoy the festive times. Today is Winter Solstice day.


  8. Pausing.


  9. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): It marks "the shortest day and longest night of the year". They're the lyrics of my song "Winter Solstice".


  10. Having found his "Winter Solstice" song on YouTube, Peter watches it.


  11. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): When I wrote it, I had the Cantonese culture and wonderful Nature in mind.


  12. Nodding.


  13. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): And I've many nostalgic and sentimental tales to tell.

  15. FLASHBACK


  16. INT. OFFICE, IPD - 12:30 (1996-2013)


  17. In festive dress, Peter works behind a computer and sends his family story to all colleagues.


  18. PETER (V.O.): After the lunch party, I'd share with all colleagues how my family has grown in the past 365 days.


  19. Pausing.


  20. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): Some knew that my wife Sharon died months after I joined the Intellectual Property Dept (IPD).


  21. Recalling.


  22. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Before I joined the Attorney General's Chambers in 1985, my family celebrated Winter Solstice with a lunch as my Dad worked the pm shift.


  23. Recalling.


  24. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'): And I'd join Sharon's family for dinner.


  25. Recalling.


  26. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Sharon was born on Winter Solstice day. She never liked her birthday anniversary as it was always celebrated with the family.

  28. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Looking back, it was very good.

  30. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): I've the urge to return to my NT home today.

  32. A. HK Bar Association. Peter submits a form together with a cheque to a RECEPTIONIST.


  33. B. Chambers. Peter passes a cheque to a SECRETARY.


  34. C. Postbox. Peter posts an invoice.


  35. D. MTR. Inside a cabin, Peter responds to festive greetings via his mobile.

  37. EXT/INT. PETER'S NT HOME - 18:00


  38. Driveway. Peter parks a 1989 Nissan 200SX.


  39. PETER (V.O.): When Sharon was pregnant, she found the coupe's suspension too uncomfortable for her.


  40. Recalling.


  41. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): We brought our new-born son home with it happily.


  42. Pausing.


  43. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): Spending a lot of money, I can maintain this coupe and it's still going strong, but...


  44. Later, lying on a sofa in the living room, Peter stares at a photo of late Sharon on a shelf.


  45. PETER (V.O.)(Cont'd): I keep memories of Sharon alive, even after she's gone.


  46. Pausing.


  47. PETER (V.O.) (Cont'd): To live with my darling to old age is what I've been yearning for.


  48. INT. RESTAURANT, HUNG SHUI KIU - 20.30


  49. Together with their MOM (92), Peter's big FAMILY are having a meal, chatting endlessly.


  50. PETER (To all): Let's take a group photo! Enjoy while we can! Endure when we must!

  52. INT. STUDY - 23:30


  53. Working on his laptop, Peter selects an AI drawing depicting an old couple and inserts it into a draft text.


  54. PETER (V.O): As I say, I yearn for this - the privilege to spend quality time with loved ones.


  55. Typing.


  56. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): I like to preserve cherished traditions that bring people together and revive stuff that create lasting memories.

  58. PETER (V.O) (Cont'd): Storytelling encourages me to express myself, connect with others and bring meaning to lives.
